HARRISBURG – Rep. Martin Causer
(R-Turtlepoint) announced today he is hosting two Property Tax/Rent
Rebate clinics to help senior citizens and other eligible individuals
apply for the program. The service is provided at no charge.
“For senior
citizens on limited incomes, a rebate on the property taxes or rent they
paid in the prior year can be a big help,” Causer said. “I want to make
sure people who are eligible take advantage of this opportunity. And I
want to make sure they come to us for free assistance rather than
responding to one of the growing number of private entities that are
offering to file rebate applications for a fee. They do not need to pay
anyone to get this rebate.”
The following clinics are scheduled for Tuesday, March 17:
- Ulysses Senior Center, 522 Main St., Ulysses – 9-10 a.m.
- Oswayo Valley Senior Center, 106 S. Oswayo St., Shinglehouse – noon to 1 p.m.
Causer stressed
that people are also welcome to stop by his offices at any time during
regular business hours for help with the rebate forms. No appointments
are necessary for the clinic or to stop by the office, but applicants
are reminded to bring the necessary income, property tax or rental information required to process their claims quickly and accurately.
The Property Tax/Rent
Rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 years or
older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or
older with permanent disabilities who meet certain income guidelines.
Renters may earn up to $15,000 annually and qualify for the program,
while homeowners may earn up to $35,000. Exclude 50
percent of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income and Railroad
Retirement Tier 1 benefits when calculating income.
