Sandra Reyes, Texas & Pennsylvania resident



Sandra Reyes, 41, of Turtlepoint, PA, died Saturday (December 28, 2013) in the Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was born Feb 5, 1972 in Port Allegany, a daughter of Gerald and Maxine Slade McFall, On March 2, 2000 in Bedford, TX she married Moses Reyes, who survives.

Mrs. Reyes attended Port Allegany High School and schools in Texas.

While in Texas she worked as a secretary for a law firm and later for a dental practice.  Since returning to the area she has worked for the American Legion John Berg Post #976 in Crosby.

Sandra loved her 3 dogs Chaz, Oliver, Jax and her 3 cats Gracie, Splotches and Cadberry but the love of her life was her dog Bennie who she lost a short time ago.

She was preceded in death by her Father and a brother David McFall and a sister Amy Lynn McFall.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan 2, 2014 from 10am to 12 Noon in the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc, 105 Main St., Port Allegany, PA, at which time funeral service will be held with the Rev James Kazimer, Pastor of the First Church of God, Eldred, officiating. Burial will be in the Annin Creek Cemetery, Annin Twp.

Good hunting season!

It's been a good hunting season for 13-year old Erin Stauffer.  She shot a doe, buck and a bear.  The bear was taken in Roulette in the Reed Run area while hunting with a group of 22.  The bear was a female that weighed 100 pounds.  Erin shot this four-point at 60 yards while hunting in Roulette with her uncle, Glenn Drabert.  Erin is the daughter of Eric and Beth Stauffer of Port Allegany.  She is a seventh grade student at Port Allegany High School.  Photos Submitted

Celebrating 5th Anniversary

William Stephen Frison, Postmaster



William Stephen Frison, 64, of Port Allegany, died Thursday (December 26, 2013) in the Presque Isle Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Erie, PA.


He was born Dec. 8, 1949 in Bradford, a son of John Robert and Dorothy Irene Miller Frison. On Dec. 5, 1970, in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Port Allegany, he married Mary Beth Wallace, who survives.


Mr. Frison was a 1967 graduate of Port Allegany High School and attended Lincoln Welding School in Cleveland, OH.


Steve worked for the U.S. Postal Service since 1970. He was a mail carrier until 1994, when he became Postmaster of the Turtlepoint Post Office, retiring in 2012.


He was a member of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Port Allegany, and was a life member of the Star Hose Co., Port Allegany. Steve was an avid bicyclist and was very involved over the years with Go-Kart racing as a member of Fri-Wal Racing.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by
one daughter: Lori S. (Ryan) Furtado of Falls Church, VA
two sons: Andrew S. (Tammy) Frison of Jensen Beach, FL, Scott W. (Sabina) Frison of Milford , CT
two grandchildren
one sister: Linda S. (Kim) Jackson of Port Allegany, PA
two brothers: James R. (Debbie) Frison of Arlington, VA, and Bradley J. (Connie) Frison of Vienna, VA
and several nieces and nephews.



Steve was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Ann Marie Frison, one sister, Mary Ellen Frison, and one brother, Bruce Frison.


Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc, 105 N Main St, Port Allegany, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 11 A.M., in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Port Allegany, with the Rev. James Campbell, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Port Allegany. The Rosary will be said at 7:45 PM in the funeral home on Monday.

Mary Ellen Lewis, local beautician



Mary Ellen Lewis, 86, of Broad St., passed away Dec. 25, 2013, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.

Born October 19, 1927, she was a daughter of Daniel W. and Estelle Strope McLaughlin.  On Apr. 18, 1953, in Keating Summit, PA, she married Eugene M. Lewis, who survives.  They were married 60 years.

Mary Ellen was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, Class of 1945.

Mrs. Lewis was a self-employed beautician and owner-operator of the Mary Ellen Beauty Shop for 60 years, before her retirement.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, where she was a member of the Methodist Women. Mary Ellen was also a 50 year member, past district deputy, and held many local offices in the former Wisteria Rebekah Lodge 164 of Port Allegany.  She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, Glamorette Chapter, Port Allegany, where she was Queen Mum.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Eugene, are two daughters, Katherine J. (Kent) Kenyon of Coudersport, Julie A. Lewis of Denver, CO; a granddaughter, Rebecca L. Kenyon of Coudersport; a sister, Carol (Ralph) Mantz of Williamson, NY, a brother, Antoine (Pat) Accristo of Helena, Mont., and several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Russell McLaughlin.

Friends will be received from 1-4 p.m. Saturday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A funeral service will be held Sunday (Dec. 29, 2013) at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, with Rev. Randall Headley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Portage Township Cemetery, Gardeau, PA.

Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church, Port Area Ambulance Service or Sweden Valley Manor Activity Fund.

Funeral services are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.

Winter band concert

The Port Allegany Music Department presented Winter Band Concert featuring Elementary Beginning Band, Elementary Advanced Band, Junior High Band and Senior High Band on Thursday, December 5 in the PAHS Auditorium.  Pictured is Malari Lapp from the Senior High Band. 

The annual Winter Band Concert was held December 5 at the Port Allegany High School.  The audience was welcomed by Jefferson Stehle, the PAHS Band Commanding Officer. 

The concert began with the Junior High Concert Band who played Hark!, Santa at the Symphony, Coliding Visions, Fiesta Espanola and Bell Carol Rock.  Members of the Junior High Concert Band includes Imani Klein and Cierra Lannager on Flute; Katherine Ernst, Emi Tanaka and Julia Young on Clarinet; Kennedy Dates, Frances Kujawski, Marcus Murphy, Tyler Phillips, Mira Terrette, Hannah Moses, Nia Klein and Eli Undercofler on Saxophone; Daniel Harris, Devon Briggs, Caroline Wise and Seth Tilley on Trumpet; Robert Gamet and Zarek Price on Trombone; Owen Russell on Euphonium; and Clark Barber, Morgan Causer, Zachary Gamet, Joshua Mealy, David Talkington and Cheyenne Heffner on Percussion. 

The Beginning Concert Band played Jingle Bells.  Members of that band include on Flute:  Tessa Bliss, Kaylee Boyd, Hailey Edgreen, Jade Evens, Chloe Ford, Madison Mahon and Sierra Wiley; Clarinet:  Shannon Curfman, Sydney Davenport, Desiree Deyarmi, Kalyn Naylor, Blake Price, Angelique Rawling, Jordan Shaffer and Danielle Witham; Alto Saxophone:  Isaak Baumgarner, Jasmine Freer, Derek Kallenborn, Ayden Russell, Emma Sewell and Hunter Whitney; Mallory Causer, Cayden Drugg, Noah Pearson, Richard Phillips and Owen Roboski; Horn/Trombone:  Harley Boughner, Shaylyne Bunnell and Samantha Watt; Baritone:  Tyler Sherwood and Hunter Tanner; and Percussion:  Gracie Archer, Taro Tanaka and Brandon Tinder. 

The Advanced Concert Band followed with Kings from the East; Do You Hear What I Hear?; Echo Carol' and Tango Bells.  The Advanced Concert Band members are Madison Preston and Liberty Dates on Flute; Taylor Emerson and Jocelyn Lilly on Clarinet; Tara Briggs, Anthony Edgell, Donald Michelitsch, Hannah Hartman, MacKenzie Barker and Dominick on Alto Saxophone; Elijah Petruzzi and Nicholas Marsiglio on Trumpet; Benjamin Lawton on French Horn; Nathaniel Robinson and Sean Boorum on Trombone/Baritone; and Deven Smoker, Kolby Hosterman and Jesse Wright on Percussion. 

The last band to perform was the Senior High Concert Band.  They played Fanfare Prelude:  Joy To The World; Spirals of Light; Carol of the Night; Procession of the Nobles; and Folklore for Band.  Members of the Senior High Concert Band are Hannah Ernst, Emily Gordon, Monica Johnson and Samantha Metzger on Flute; Steven Bressan, Joyanna Landes, Allison Lathrop, and Helene Winter on Clarinet; Bryana Baer, Logan Hutton, and McKenna Johnson on Also Saxophone; Matthew Causer, Adam Koehler, Charles Kysor,and Cullen McDowell on Trumpet; Andrew Rosenswie, Garrett Talkington, Tyler Tucker and Daniel Wright on Trombone/Baritone; Dustin Hoffman and Jefferson Stehle on Tuba and Malari Lapp, Eli Knapp, Morgan Price and Anna Undercofler on Percussion.

Successful hunt

Rotary Report

SENIOR GUESTS - The Port Allegany Rotary Club met Thursday, December 12 at the Moose Family Center.  Senior visitors were Logan Hutton and Kala Goodreau, pictured here with Rotarian Randy Headley. 
 
ROTARY REPORT - The Port Allegany Rotary met Thursday at the Moose Family Center.  President Bob Hartle called the meeting to order and Secretary Joe Lashway gave the attendance and fellowship report.  There were 21 Rotarians present for a reportable attendance of 70 percent. 
 
Guests included Smethport Rotarian Troy Herzog, prospective member Gary Devore and guest speakers George Riley, Christopher Lashway, Hannah Ernst and Rotary Exchange Student Helene Winter. 
 
Senior visitors were Logan Hutton and Kala Goodreau.  Logan is the son of Rick and Meg Hutton.  He has a little sister named Reagan.  At PAHS, Logan is active in Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Show Choir, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band; is a member of the Basketball, Track and Soccer teams, Student Council, Peer Helpers and National Honor Society.  Outside of school, he is active in sports and Boy Scouts.  He plans to study engineering in college and is looking at several schools.
 
Kala is the daughter of Mark and Kandi Goodreau.  She has one sister and two brothers.  Kala studies at Port Allegany High School and completed the Health Assistant program at the Seneca Highlands Career Technical Center.  After high school, she plans to attend JCC to become an RN.  She is a member of the Concert Choir and is manager of the wrestling team.   Outside of school, she likes to babysit and hunt.  She got an 8-point deer this season.

Wintersongs weekend

Never too old

From the Never Too Old department - PAHS Senior Tyler Shaffer relaxes with his dad, Mark Shaffer, following the PAHS Winter Band Concert.  Tyler's little sister, Jordan, was a member of the Beginning Band.  A couple of days later, Santa and Mrs. Claus convinced the Eastmans that you're never too old to visit with Santa.  It's rumored that Dolores and Lloyd were very good this past year and can expect some wonderful presents under the Christmas tree.  The jolly couple visited the UMC SS Christmas Party held Sunday at the church.  Pam Fischer Photo

District Chorus



Four Port Allegany High School students were selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators (PMEA) District 2 Chorus Festival to be held January 8 - 11, 2014, at Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse.  The Guest Conductor will be Dr. Robert Ward, Director of Choral Activities at Ohio State University where he conducts the Men's Glee Club and Chorale.  Representing PAHS will be Charles Kysor, Bass; Logan Hutton, Tenor; Emily Gordon, Alto; and MaKayla Ramadhan, Soprano.  Concerts will be held Friday, January 10, 2014 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Oswayo Valley High School.  Tickets will be available at the door.   Pam Fischer Photo
