Frank W. Switzer, Sr., Local Funeral Director



Frank W. Switzer, Sr., 90, Willow St., passed away Wednesday (Feb. 11, 2015) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center.
    
Born August 30, 1924, in Mifflintown, PA, he was a son of William E. and Mable Wright Switzer. On Jan. 24, 1948, in Mifflintown, he married M. Vivian Gaul, who survives. They were married 67 years.
      
Frank graduated from Juniata High School, Class of 1942, and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, Class of 1947, where he graduated Cum Laude.
      
He was a funeral director in Lewistown, PA, Lemoyne, PA, and since 1956 in Port Allegany.  In 1971, he took over the Gallup Funeral Home, and has been involved with the family business ever since. He was a licensed funeral director for 65 years.
    
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, a 50 year member of the F. & A.M. Liberty Lodge 505, Port Allegany, member of Coudersport Consistory, former member and director of the Smethport Country Club, and member of the Couples League. He was also a former member of the Port Allegany Exchange Club and the Port Allegany Rotary Club.
    
He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Navy.  He served aboard several ships, and traveled in the North Atlantic and South Pacific Oceans, and visited Russia, Belgium, Scotland and France during his tour.
    
Surviving in addition to his wife, Vivian, are a son, Frank W. (Pamela) Switzer, Jr. of Port Allegany, a daughter, Marsha V. Jordan of Mishawaka, IN; three grandchildren, Derek (Sara) Switzer of Chevy Chase, MD, Brian (Jenna) Switzer of Erie PA, Stacey Donica of Mishawaka, IN; and three great granddaughters, Angelina Jordan, Mya Donica and Claire Switzer; a sister, Shirley Houtz; and several nieces and nephews.
      
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, Charles, Woodrow, Jay, Junior, Robert, Joseph Switzer and two infant brothers; 8 sisters, Mary Fesler, Ardith Yeisley, Mildred Schmidt, Leone Potter, Jane Street, Lois Harris, Betty Carter, and an infant sister.
    
Friends will be received from 2-4 6-8 p.m. Saturday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 15, 2015) with Rev. Michael Culver, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and Rev. H.D. Youngblood, Jr., co-officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
    
Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

  1. I, was saddened to hear of the passing, of Frank. My friend, you were the wind, beneath my feet , when, I had my flower shop, (Falk Florist) for 38 years.He, was a perfectionist, in his profession.To, his family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. God,has gained an angel and we have lost a wonderful friend. R.I.P. Frank.
