Police Report 10/20 - 10/26

A toddler wandered across the street to the Pump House, and was taken safely home again. A few days later he toddled clear to Shop ’n Save and began shopping.

A woman denied that her ex had belongings at the formerly shared home. The belongings were in a trash bag in a shed.

Domestic conflict erupted on the corner of Pearl and West Mill, and one person wound up in jail.

These and other matters drew responses from the Port Allegany Police Department in the week that began Monday, October 20.

Last Tuesday at 5 p.m. Officer Tony Tanner received a call concerning an erratic driver passing through town. He did not locate the vehicle.

At 6:30 p.m. Tanner served a subpoena for a neighboring police department.

Last Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. Chief Dave Distrola was flagged down by someone telling him about a four-year-old boy found at the Pump House lot. Distrola recognized the child and took him to the boy’s home on Ransome Street. The child had left that home and crossed the road.

Thursday at 9 a.m. Distrola was called to Bridgeport Academy by a student who reported that another student would not give back her phone. The information gathered indicated that the complaining student had given another female student her iPhone 4 on October 8, and had signed a written statement to that effect. Now she wanted her phone back. Distrola advised the complainant to file a civil complaint to be heard in magistrate court.

At 6:16 p.m. Officer Tanner received a complaint concerning a vehicle being operated on Pierce Brook Road with a juvenile passenger not restrained. Tanner explained that the vehicle was observed outside the borough and was not within the jurisdiction of the borough police.

At 9:11 p.m. Tanner received a complaint that a 12-year-old girl had not returned home after school. The girl was discovered walking on Route 6 West with a 16-year-old female friend. The subjects were released to their parents.

At 9:31 p.m. Tanner received a request to assist in a property recovery at a residence on North Main Street. The caller later withdrew the request.

Friday at 10:40 p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson arrested Thomas Bidwell Jr., age 23, of Skinner Creek Road, on suspicion of DUI. Charges await further investigation.

Saturday at 5 p.m. Tanner received a report of a possible hit-and-run on Church Street. The caller indicated that an exterior mirror on a vehicle had been pushed out of place. Tanner did not find damage.

At 11:10 p.m. Tanner responded to a report of an out-of-control female at the junction of Mill Street and Pearl Street. The subject was intoxicated. Tanner advised her to calm down and go home. The subject agreed to do so, but she failed to carry out her promise.

At 11:37 p.m. Tanner returned to the same location on a report of an out-of-control person. This time he arrested Jessica D. Barnett, age 28, of 3031 East Valley Road, for simple assault, domestic violence. Subject allegedly punched her wife, Jaymi Lynn Barnett, age 35, of the same address,  in the face, twice. Other charges include misdemeanor disorderly conduct, harassment, summary disorderly conduct, and violation of restrictions on alcoholic beverages in that the subject had opened a can of beer in front of the officer. Jessica Barnett was arraigned and jailed in McKean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 straight bail.

Sunday at 9:27 a.m. Officer Jason Crants was dispatched to North Main Street for a report of a property dispute. Upon arrival he found that a male party wanted to recover his belongings. His ex-girlfriend at that residence claimed that he did not have any property there. But Crants and the male party discovered the male party’s belongings in a trash bag in a shed. The female at the address became irate and belligerent, and Crants escorted the male from the property, with his belongings. The McKean County Housing Authority was notified.

At 6:45 Dickerson was dispatched to Shop ’n Save where an underage shopper had been reported. The shopper turned out to be the same four-year-old who had visited the Pump House Wednesday afternoon. This time he had come from his father’s house on Pearl Street. He was pushing and loading a shopping cart without supervision. Investigation revealed that the boy had decided to leave his father’s house to do some shopping. McKean County Children and Youth Services was notified.
