A generator-welder came up missing from Verallia. A wife got
a PFA against her husband and he was put out—of the home, that is. Kids were
bike-riding around on Mill Street. A landlord-tenant dispute flared. There was
a triple-fender-bender at the North Main-Maple intersection. A life flight
helicopter landing place was set up.
Those were some of the matters addressed by Port Allegany
Police in the week that began Monday, October 7 and ended Sunday, October 13.
Last Monday at 2:55 p.m. Chief Dave Distrola was dispatched
to 115 North Main Street for a property issue. It was determined to be a
landlord-tenant matter. Both parties were referred to the Magisterial District
Court.
At 4:36 p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson received a report that
three children were riding bikes in the road on Mill Street. A driver said she
had narrowly avoided hitting them. Apparently the kids live at 91 Pearl Street.
Dickerson was unable to contact a person in charge of the children.
At 7 p.m. Dickerson assisted the Port Allegany Fire
Department in securing a landing zone for a life flight.
At 7:20 p.m. Dickerson assisted a disabled motorist at the
intersection of North Main Street and Arnold Avenue.
Last Tuesday at 2:55 p.m. Chief Distrola responded to a
three-car crash at the intersection of North Main Street and Maple Street.
According to Raymond Butler Jr. of Roulette, he was unable to stop his 2003
Crown Victoria when he pulled out of a West Maple Street parking spot, because
the accelerator stuck. The vehicle continued through the stop sign and entered
the intersection, striking the right front fender of a 2001 Chevy Lumina
operated by Dorothy Wilson of Smethport. Butler’s vehicle glanced off the
Lumina and made a head-on impact with a 2012 GMC Sierra operated by Carl
Cassidy of Spring Mills. There were no injuries reported. The Crown Vic and
Lumina required towing.
At 3:30 p.m. Distrola received a report of a wire down on
Church Street. It was a Zitomedia cable. Dispatch was advised to call the
company.
Ten minutes later Distrola was dispatched to 115 North Main
Street for a landlord-tenant dispute. The landlord stated that the second floor
tenant had stolen a refrigerator from the apartment. The tenants were present,
and they stated that the refrigerator stopped working and it was replaced. Both
parties were told to contact the Magisterial District Court. The landlord
removed the commode and furnace blower, stating that they needed repairs.
Last Wednesday at 5 p.m. Officer William Wenzel received a
complaint alleging that a landlord was renting out a garage for storage and
garage use and the tenant had failed to pay the rent. The landlord had locked
the garage denying the tenant access to the interior. The caller was advised to
contact the Magisterial District Court.
Thursday at 10:35 a.m. Distrola received a complaint of a
possible forged check. A witness explained that the signature was authorized.
There will be no further investigation.
At 12:54 p.m. Distrola received a complaint of harassment,
with a woman saying she was receiving unwanted text messages from an
ex-boyfriend in New York. Distrola spoke with the subject, who was uncooperative.
The complainant was advised to block the caller’s number.
At 5:10 p.m. Officer Colin Strawcutter unlocked a vehicle
for a motorist at Rite Aid.
At 9:40 p.m. Strawcutter received an inquiry as to whether a
lost iPod had been turned in. It had not.
At 12:20 p.m. Strawcutter received a call reporting that a
white Husky had been found at 809 North Main Street. The caller said he would
hold the dog overnight.
Friday at 1:08 p.m. Distrola received a complaint from a
woman in Cuba, N.Y. who said some Port Allegany residents were sending her
unwanted text messages and refused to stop. Distrola was unable to make contact
with the alleged texter.
At 1:27 p.m. Distrola received a complaint that a portable
generator-welder combo had been stolen from the Verallia premises. It was
described as a white MultiQuip Whisper welder weighing 882 pounds, mounted on a
trailer with a Pintle hitch. It was said to have been stolen after 5:30 p.m.
Thursday. The items are owned by R.B. Uren of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and were rented
by H.F. Teichman Co. to do some work on the Verallia silo.
At 5:45 p.m. Officer Strawcutter received another complaint
from the person in Cuba, N.Y. about the unwanted texting. Strawcutter made
contact with the texter and advised that person to discontinue the activity.
Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Officer Wenzel received a report that a
bicycle had been stolen from a like rack near the pool. It had been left
overnight and was gone when the owner went to retrieve it.
At 10 p.m. that complainant reported to Officer Dickerson
that he had found the bike.
At 10:20 p.m. Dickerson was requested to serve a Protection
From Abuse order on Bryan Simar at 221 Broad Street. Following an alleged
domestic dispute Cristol B. Simar had obtained a PFA evicting Bryan Simar from
their residence at 504 Dwight Street, Coudersport.
