The Port Allegany
School District Music Department presents WINTERSONGS on Friday, December 12th
and Saturday, December 13th at 7:30 PM in the Port Allegany High
School Auditorium.
The concert will
feature the Port Allegany High School Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Junior
High Chorus, the Port Allegany Elementary Ensemble, and the Port Allegany
Elementary Choruses. Also making a guest appearance will be the North
Country Voices under the direction of Gloria Richardson.
The North Country Voices is a choral organization which was
organized ten years ago, having evolved from the long-established Coudersport
Community Chorus. There are presently twenty eight singers, representing the
Coudersport community and the towns of Austin, Genesee, Harrison Valley,
Smethport and Ulysses. In addition to participating in the WINTERSONGS
concert, the North Country Voices also presents two annual concerts (December
and May).
For the WINTERSONGS concert,
the NCV will combine forces with the Port Allegany High School Chorus to
present “Antiphonal Alleluia” from “Occasional Oratorio” by the German Baroque
composer George F. Handel. Originally titled “He Gave Them Hailstones for
Rain”, the “Antiphonal Alleluia” was borrowed by Handel from his oratorio Israel
In Egypt for use in the third act.
The WINTERSONGS
concert program will also include carols, holiday music, and a combined finale
featuring all of the choral ensembles from the Port Allegany School District
under the direction of Ken and Annamaria Myers.
Tickets are $3.00 (general
admission) at the door. Advance sale general admission tickets may be
purchased at the Port Allegany School District Office for $2.00.
