BRADFORD, PA – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will host academic,
athletic and arts camps for students in kindergarten through high school
this summer.
Arts camps are Pot-Pot-Pottery, Youth Art Camp, Youth Writing Spectacular
and Paint like the Masters.
Academic camps for elementary-age students are X-treme Science Camp and Pets
’n’ Vets. Pre-teen and teen-age students will enjoy CSI101: You are the
Detective and Television Studio Production, both of which are taught by
Pitt-Bradford faculty members.
Athletic camps include offerings in swimming and basketball.
Camps begin as soon as school lets out in Pennsylvania. Children age 9 to 16
in Pot-Pot-Pottery will have fun working with clay. They will
learn hand building, coil construction and throwing on a potter’s wheel.
Artists will be able to glaze and fire their work and take home their completed
projects. Two sessions are being offered from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. June 9 through 13
and July 14 through
18 in the ceramics studio. The $89 cost for
the first camper includes materials. Additional children pay $79.
In Youth Art Camp: Crazy Mixed Media, Anna Lemnitzer, assistant professor
of art at Pitt-Bradford, will teach students age 8 to 14 to make fun, creative
art using collage, photography, printing, sculpture and drawing. Classes will
take place from 8:30
to 11:30 a.m. June
16 through 20 in Room 146 of Blaisdell Hall. The $89 cost for the
first camper includes materials. Additional children pay $79.
The following week, Dr. Dani Weber, director of the Writing Center at
Pitt-Bradford, will work with children age 9 to 14 in a Youth Writing
Spectacular. This creative writing camp is for young writers who want
to develop their talent and passion for writing fiction, nonfiction and poetry.
On the evening of the last day, campers will read at an “open mic” celebration
in Harriett B. Wick Chapel. Classes will take place from 8:30 to 11 a.m. June 23 through 26
in Room 158 of the Richard E. and Ruth McDowell Sport and Fitness Center. The
cost is $75 for the first camper and $65 for each additional child.
In July, Paint like the Masters will explore the lives and
artwork of famous artists. Students age 8 through 14 will leave with an
original piece of artwork inspired by a master. Classes will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

through 17 in Room 146 of Blaisdell Hall. The $89 cost for the
first camper includes materials. Additional children pay $79.
In the popular X-Treme Science Camp, students who are entering
grades 2 through 7 will participate in labs and activities dealing with
different areas of science. They will learn about plants, birds, stream life,
water quality, chemistry, physical science and more. Guest presenters will
visit each day. Classes will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon daily June 9 through 12.
The $89 cost for the first camper includes materials and T-shirt. Additional
children pay $79.
CSI 101: You are the Detective will introduce students to the
criminal justice system, case law, and obtaining and writing search/arrest
warrants, all while conducting a criminal investigation to students age 10
through 16. Using excellent criminal forensic resources and equipment, campers
will investigate mock crime scenarios at the Crime Scene Investigation House on
campus under the guidance of Dr. Tony Gaskew, associate professor of criminal
justice and an expert in the field of policing and criminal investigations.
Classes are from 8:30
a.m. to noon June
16 through 19 and meet each day in Room 162 of Swarts Hall. The
$89 cost for the first camper includes materials. Additional children pay
$79.
In July, campers age 10 through 16 can learn how to create television news
broadcasts and other types of programs in a real-life, multi-camera digital
studio environment. Television Studio Production with Jeff
Guterman will teach campers about the roles behind and in front of the
camera. The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to noon July 16 and 17 in the
television studio in Blaisdell Hall. The cost is $59 for the first camper;
additional campers are $49.
The final camp of the summer, Pets ’n’ Vets,will take place Aug. 5 through 7
in Fisher Hall. Children who have completed grades 1 through 3 can attend from 8:30 a.m. until noon
each day. Campers who have completed grades 4 through 6 will meet from 1:30 to 5 p.m.
This popular three-day program includes creative and instructional activities
centered on kids and their pets. Hands-on learning is the primary focus.
Campers should bring their own drinks and snacks to all camps. For more

Head Swimming Coach Ed Bahan is currently conducting an advanced swimming
class for competitive swimmers age 8 and older from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. weekdays.
Classes began Monday
and will continue through July
4. The cost for the 12-week program is $190. For more

Three sessions of basketball camp are planned for players age 8 to 18. Camp
runs from 9 a.m. to
3 p.m. each day in the Richard E. and Ruth McDowell Sport and
Fitness Center, and the cost of each camp is $100. Camp from June 9 through 12 is for
girls only; camp June
23 through 26 is co-ed; camp Aug. 4 through 7 is for boys only. For
