Margaret J. Keeney, PAWC Member



Margaret J. Keeney, 75, of Katherine St., passed away Thursday (April 17, 2014) in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
    
Born June 10, 1938, in Jeannette, PA, she was a daughter of Joseph C. and Alice V. O’Rosky Bengel. She married Gerald Keeney in Uniontown, PA, who died Oct. 13, 2007.
    
Mrs. Keeney had worked at Jeannette Glass Works, Jeannette, PA, and most recently as gate receptionist at Pittsburgh Corning Co., Port Allegany for 15 years, before her retirement.
    
She was a longtime resident of the area coming from Jeannette, PA.  She was a graduate of the Jeannette High School, Class of 1956. She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church of Port Allegany, Catholic Women’s Club, Parish Council, and former director of Religious Education. She was also a member of the Port Allegany Women’s Club, Port Allegany Parent, Teacher, Student Association but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
    
Surviving are two sons, Patrick E. (Anne) Keeney of Charles Town, WV, Gerald L. (Diane) Keeney of Sheridan, IN; a daughter, Gail M. (Gerald) Bailey of Coudersport; five grandchildren; Catherine and Patrick J. Keeney, Quinlan, Camden and Brenna Bailey; a sister, Mary Frances (Perry) Andiorio of Jeannette, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
    
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald, two brothers, Joseph Bengel and John “Jack” Bengel; and a sister, Alice Mae McMann.
    
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, with Rev. James Campbell as celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Port Allegany.
    
A scriptural wake service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
    
Memorials can be made to St. Gabriel’s Church Memorial Fund or McKean County SPCA.
