The state House took another
important step toward passage of an on-time, fiscally responsible budget
on Wednesday when House Bill 1437 was approved and sent to the Senate for its consideration.
The $28.3 billion plan includes no new or increased taxes. Basic education funding for the state’s school districts is increased by $100 million while funding for higher education remains level with the current fiscal year. The bill adds $20 million to reduce the waiting list for services for people with intellectual disabilities; restores funding for agriculture programs, including hardwoods research; and restores $4 million for county conservation districts.
