Port Allegany Hosts Blood Drive to Show It Is a Community that Cares

Residents of Port Allegany and the American Red Cross will join together for a special “Community That Cares” blood drive on Wednesday, June 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Port Allegany Fire Hall at 65 West Maple Street. A “Community That Cares” blood drive is a Red Cross initiative to help engage local citizens and boost regional blood supplies by enlisting community support.

Summer is around the corner. That means time for vacations, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the great outdoors. However, the need for blood never takes a vacation. Local blood donors are needed all year round to ensure the blood supply stays strong. Approximately every two seconds a patient in the United States needs blood. That’s why your blood donation through the Red Cross is so important.

The Red Cross is urging all eligible donors to help keep the blood supply strong this upcoming summer by making an appointment to donate blood today. Your blood donation can help save the life of a real person in our community. Blood is an essential component for patient care in area hospitals, and the only source of blood is a healthy, volunteer blood donor. All presenting donors during the month of June will have the opportunity to enter two great raffles. The first is a raffle for a $200 Visa gift card, courtesy of Suburban Propane and the second is a daily raffle for a $100 Ticketmaster giftcard.* Walk-ins are always welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by calling 1-800 RED CROSS or by visiting redcrossblood.org.
