How can so many things happen in one short
week? Since last week's column was written, the Night of Games was
held, as well as a dodgeball tournament, the last of the lenten services
was held, Rotary held their first meeting of the month, Maundy Thursday
and Good Friday services were held, there was an Easter Egg Hunt,
Easter services were held and Easter dinner was enjoyed! There was more
in between all of the things listed, but there is only so much space
for this column.
The
Night of Games was a lot of fun, as usual. The Sandy Johnson School of
Dance students did a great job as they opened the show with several
dance numbers. Annamaria Myers and Mike Nasto worked with elementary
students to bring back the Gym Show complete with tumbling and the
parachute. In addition, students performed a choreographed basketball
number that was pretty amazing. I had never seen anything like it! The
matchups between the Faculty and Friends and the seniors - in
volleyball and basketball are always so much fun. The evening was fun,
entertaining and moved right along. Congrats to the Jill Stuckey and
all involved! The Night of Games was sponsored by the Basketball
Boosters.
The
Youth Counselors sponsored a Dodgeball Tournament with proceeds of the
event going to support the community pool. Again, a lot of fun...and
proceeds going to a great cause. Thank you Youth Counselors!
It
will seem weird this week to not go to the Lenten Services. Held in
the middle of the day, in the middle of the week, the services not only
provided a good message followed by good food and fellowship, but also a
time to take a breather and reflect on the season! Thank you,
Ministerium, for all you do!
I
didn't make it to the Thursday night service in Crosby, but I made it
to two Good Friday services - one in Port at the First Baptist Church
and another at the Riverside Methodist Church in Roulette. Sometimes I
think I don't have time to get to all of these services but once I get
there, I realize it is always time well spent.
Saturday
morning, it was freezing cold. I knew it would be. How did I know?
There was another Easter Egg Hunt. Friday, temps in the 60's - great
EEH weather...Saturday, not so much. The hunt was sponsored by Open
Arms Community Church. After the hunt, families were invited into the
firehall for some yummy looking treats and crafts. It was a lot of fun
and gave everyone a chance to thaw out after the hunt.
Sunday
morning finally arrived and I was up and ready early to take Mom and
Dad to the Sunrise Service. I missed last year's service because I was
up half the night like I usually am, hit the alarm when it went off and
went back to sleep until Mom called five minutes before the service
began to see if I was going to come and get them. I didn't even get
dressed....just picked them up, dropped them off, came home and got
ready! I made it back to church by the time breakfast was over. This
year, I was also up half the night, but I did make it to church (and the
delicious breakfast!) on time. After SS and church, we headed to Mom
and Dad's for a wonderful Easter meal. It has always amazed me how my
mother makes these holiday dinners. The food is always wonderful she
makes everything from scratch...no shortcuts! This year, a month of so
after her 90th birthday, our Easter dinner celebration was once again
amazing! Thanks, Mom and Dad for making holidays so special for your
family.
Hopefully
the weather will make a turn for the better and we can soon enjoy
spring sports. The kids are working hard to prepare, so I hope they get
to play sooner than later.
Have a good week...and please be kind to one another!
