Gordon
C. Freer, 87, of Platt St. passed away on February 8, 2015 at his residence
following a long illness.
Born
October 22, 1927 in Port Allegany he was the son of Clifford and Dorthea Falk
Freer.
Gordy
was a 1946 graduate of Eldred High School and later completed the course in
Auto Body Repair in Erie, Pa. A lifetime resident of Eldred he was a
veteran of WWll having served with the U.S. Army as a mechanic in the Motor
Pool. From 1952 to 1958 he was employed by Brushingham Auto Body in
Olean. In 1960 he purchased the Eldred Paint and Body Shop which he
co-owned and operated with Ron Kemp until he sold his share in
1985. Gordy was later employed by the Whitehawk Beef Co. in Eldred
until his retirement in 2003.
He
was a longtime member of the Eldred Fire Department and the Ambulance, and the
Eldred American Legion Post No. 887. Gordy was an avid longtime
stock car driver in the “jalopy class” in many Penna. And New York
tracks. He loved camping and boating with his family at East Branch
Dam and hunting and fishing at the Freer hunting camp on Kings Run Road, Ceres.
Surviving
are one son, Gary Freer of Eldred and one daughter Roxanne (Donald) Curtis of
Sayre, Pa., seven Grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
There
will be no visitation and private services will be held at a later date with
burial at Grimes Cemetery in Port Allegany.
