The Port Allegany manufacturing facility of Pittsburgh
Corning Corporation and its workers’ union have agreed to extend their current
labor agreement through December 18, 2016.
Lois Easton, president of Local 1019 of the United Steel
Workers, and Robert Lehman, plant manager, announced the extension. It will
take effect November 10.
There were some “agreed upon monetary terms” changes,
according to the announcement. In a joint statement, they said, “This provides
employees with the continued stability under the current market conditions and
anticipated emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.”
The agreement covers the hourly workers at the plant, said
to number 66.
The extension is to a previous extension, which had been in
effect since May 2, 2013, and was of 18 months’ duration. The original contract
was a three-year pact reached about 4 1/2 years ago.
