Police Report 2/24 - 3/02

A male teenager was not at home but apparently was not at his girlfriend’s place either, but the couple seemed to be creating problems right and left; two Hickory Street dogs weren’t at home but were roaming the neighborhood; a township woman was arrested on a felony retail theft warrant; and so it went. All in all, Port Allegany Police were busy in the week that began Monday, February 24.

At 10 a.m. last Monday Chief Dave Distrola was contacted by a Cyclone woman about her son, age 16, who had left home the previous night and was thought to be at his girlfriend’s home in Port Allegany. That home was checked and the teenaged male was not there. The worried mom was advised to call Pennsylvania State Police.

At 10 a.m. last Tuesday Distrola attended an interview of juveniles in connection with allegations of abuse previously made by other juveniles. The interview produced “negative information supporting allegations.”

At 8:25 a.m. last Wednesday Distrola received a complaint of a disabled van having been parked in the Burlesons True Value parking lot for three days. The van owner was contacted and told to move the van or it would be towed.

At 8:59 a.m. Distrola was contacted about two dogs said to be running at large in the Hickory Street area on a regular basis. The owner was located and advised of the state leash law, and told that further complaints may result in citations.

At 10:30 a.m. Distrola executed two felony retail theft arrest warrants on Mary Lou Silvis of 70 June Hollow Road. The warrants had been issued by Magisterial District Judge Bill Todd. Silvis was arraigned and jailed on $5,000 bail.

At 1:30 p.m. Distrola was called to 20 Main Street to deal with an unwanted male, but the subject had left when Distrola arrived.

At 4 p.m. Distrola was dispatched to the former Sheetz location for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Information provided was that a Sena Kean van operated by Molly Kinner was rear-ended by a Mazda operated by Sunni Mitchell. The van was stopped for a red light at the intersection of South Main Street with Mill Street. No injuries were reported and both vehicles were drivable. Drivers were advised to exchange insurance information.

At 7:11 p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson was dispatched to PC Credit Union for an alarm. A key holder arrived and the building was searched. It was determined that no break-in had occurred. The alarm was reset.

At 1:30 p.m. Thursday Chief Distrola received a complaint of a hit-and-run said to have occurred on Broad Street. The caller said his truck had been hit or possibly backed into while it was parked across from the rental storage units. The caller indicated that the damage had occurred Tuesday afternoon or evening.

At 3:30 p.m. Distrola received a complaint of a threat said to have occurred at Bridgeport Academy. The caller said her son had been threatened by a Bridgeport Academy student who had said he would shoot the complaining parent’s daughter. Information from Bridgeport Academy was that the alleged threat maker is “a high functioning autistic” and that the issue had been addressed. No charges will be filed.

At 8 p.m. Dickerson assisted PSP in attempting to locate the missing juvenile from Cyclone. They executed a search warrant at 310 North Main Street but did not locate the 16-year-old.

At 1:28 p.m. Friday Distrola received a call complaining of harassment via Facebook, in that a female was said to be posting unwanted messages on her page. Distrola was unable to make direct contact with the subject but was able to contact a relative who was asked to deliver a request to remove the post/cease the posting behavior. This incident was related to the matter of the missing juvenile from Cyclone.

At 5:20 p.m. Dickerson was dispatched to Sheetz for a report of a vehicle fire. Apparently the owner was able to extinguish the fire on his own before Dickerson arrived. The subject was having difficulty starting the vehicle, according to the officer.

Sunday at 2 p.m. Officer Kyle Day was dispatched to 87 South Main Street for a report of a disturbance. The incident was related to a landlord-tenant matter in which the tenant had not vacated the residence and an argument had ensued. The landlord was requested to return later that evening after the tenant had departed.
