Montecalvo succeeds Montecalvo on IDA / By Martha Knight

SMETHPORT—The recent retirement from public life of Al Montecalvo of Lewis Run left the McKean County Industrial Development Authority briefly without a Montecalvo. The long-serving borough official had been active in the IDA and numerous other agencies.

Tuesday morning the McKean County Commissioners filled that slot in the IDA by appointing Al Montecalvo’s great nephew, Mike Montecalvo, to serve out the unexpired term of Al Montecalvo, which will end December 31, 2017.

Commissioner Al Pingie commented that the elder Montecalvo had been outstanding in his service as mayor and as councilperson, in Lewis Run. Commissioner chairman Joe DeMott voiced “thanks for the good work” of Al Montecalvo.

The commissioners authorized the renewal of the county’s contract with Erie County for part-time use of Erie County’s forensic pathology services. McKean County pays a $5,000 annual retainer to maintain its arrangement for such services, plus per-use fees when forensic pathology services are required by the McKean County coroner’s office.

Commissioners agreed to the addition of Marietta Davis of Erie to the list of foster care providers, as requested by the Department of Human Services.

Two real estate tax exemptions were approved, at the recommendation of chief tax assessor Angelia Tennies. One property is 928 South Avenue, Bradford, a .36-acre parcel owned by the City of Bradford at a sheriff’s sale, which will remain vacant until it is sold.

The other exemption went to the Regular Baptist Church on Route 6, Smethport, and applies to a quarter-acre right-of-way for recreation activities.

DeMott read into the record a proclamation designating March 27 as Child Advocacy Center Day. In the proclamation the commissioners “emphasize the importance of understanding the devastating problem of child abuse within the county, and the need for all McKean County residents to help in the fight to protect McKean County’s most valuable asset – our children.”

Commissioner Cliff Lane was absent from the brief meeting, because he was at an out-of-town Conservation meeting.

The commissioners met a week earlier than their usual fourth Tuesday pattern, because the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania will meet next week, in Hershey.
