WHAT: The
House Game and Fisheries Committee, chaired by Rep. Martin Causer
(R-Cameron/McKean/Potter), will conduct a hearing on several bills
related to the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s (PGC) deer management and
deer hunting policies. Bills slated for discussion include:
- House Bill 870 – Excludes public land from the Deer Management Assistance Program.
- House Bill 1146 – Removes antler restrictions for senior hunters.
- House Bill 1370 – Establishes a separate three-day antlerless deer season following the regular rifle antlered deer season.
- House Bill 1724 – Designates Wildlife Management Units and issuance of antlerless deer permits on a county basis.
- House Bill 1726 – Directs the Pennsylvania Game Commission to use the maximum sustained yield method of game and habitat management.
- House Resolution 576 – Urges the Pennsylvania Game Commission to study the possibility of starting the rifle deer season on a Saturday.
WHO: Causer and members of the committee. Testifiers include PGC Director of the Bureau of Wildlife Management Calvin DuBrock, Randy Santucci of the Unified Sportsmen of Pennsylvania and Melody Schell of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs.
