Port Allegany Police dealt with fairly
routine matters in the course of duty, in the week that began Monday, October 21 and ended Sunday, October 27. Meanwhile, Officer Jason Crants, recently
added to the force, was being mentored by accompanying other officers on
patrol.
Last Monday at 9:15
a.m. Chief Dave Distrola and Officer Crants
received a report that the traffic light at the intersection of North Main
Street with Route 6 West was blinking red on both sides. The borough office was
notified and they contacted an electrician.
At 6 p.m. the electrician contacted Officer Kyle
Day to report that he had repaired the traffic light.
Last Tuesday morning Distrola and
Crants received a report from a concerned citizen that crosswalk lines at the
Arnold Avenue and North Main Street intersection need to be repainted. The call
was referred to the borough office.
At 3 p.m. there was a call indicating that Adam
Rotino was in the Erie County Jail in Buffalo, N.Y. and could be picked up on
warrants from the Port Allegany Police charging drug offenses.
Beginning at 6:18
p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson received
several complaints about a man going door-to-door offering to test water. The
man is affiliated with Mountain Pure Water Systems of Millerstown.
At 7 p.m. Dickerson attempted to serve an arrest
warrant from Potter County on Michael Johnson, said to live at 604 North Main
Street. Other occupants said Johnson has moved to Colorado.
At 7:25 p.m. Dickerson arrested Michele
A. Hults, 39, of 7 Hickory Street for suspected DUI after she allegedly ran a
stop sign at the intersection of Broad Street with Pine Street. Charges are
pending.
Last Wednesday Distrola and Crants
received a complaint that a vehicle parked in front of Medbury Manor on Church
Street was suspected to be abandoned. The officers conducted a check on the
vehicle, and fount that its inspection sticker and registration are current.
The vehicle is owned by Joan C. Andrews of Roulette. An officer tried to
contact Andrews but did not reach her. The vehicle is parked legally, and has
not been determined to be disabled or abandoned.
At 1:30 p.m. the officers received a
complaint that someone was being harassed on Facebook. The complainant said a
subject had posted a threatening remark about him on Facebook. Further
information revealed that a remark had been posted on a public forum, but no
names had been mentioned and it was not clear whom the remark concerned.
Thursday at 1:15 p.m. Chief Distrola and Officer Crants
received another complain about a man going door-to-door soliciting people to
have their water tested. Investigation revealed that it was the same
individual, affiliated with Mountain Pure Water Systems, who had been spoken to
Tuesday.
He was told that he was in violation of the borough soliciting ordinance, in
that his permit had been for one day, and it had expired. He was advised to get
his permit or discontinue soliciting. He opted to discontinue.
At 6:40 p.m. Dickerson was called to
Dollar General for a report of a retail theft that had occurred the previous
night. The incident is under investigation.
Friday at 5:35 p.m. Officer Colin Strawcutter received a
report that oil had been spilled on the Route 6 West bridge. He checked the
area but did not find an oil spill.
At 8:56 p.m. Strawcutter helped a
motorist with a vehicle lockout at Dollar General.
At 10 p.m. Strawcutter was called to Smethport to
assist Smethport Police with a domestic incident.
Saturday at 2:45 a.m. Strawcutter responded to a report of
excess noise emanating from Apartment 6 at 7:29 North Main Street. He tried to make
contact but no one responded. A neighbor said that resident had turned the
sound system off before Strawcutter got there.
Sunday at 4 a.m. Officer Strawcutter
responded to 815 North Main Street for a report that a vehicle had crashed into
a utility pole. Strawcutter found that a 2007 Ford F150 had crashed into some
pine trees at 817 North Main Street. No operator was present. The truck was
identified as belonging to Michael A. Frontino of 357 West Branch Road,
Smethport. Strawcutter requested the assistance of the Pennsylvania State
Police in contacting or locating the operator. The owner’s residence was
checked but Frontino was not found. Investigation is ongoing.
At 2:20 p.m. Officer William Wenzel
received a complaint of a hit-and-run in Church Street Alley behind Shooters
Bar. Tasha Alcock reported that someone had sideswiped her 2002 Volvo while it
was parked behind Shooters. She gave the name of a possible suspect who had
been parked next to her vehicle the previous night. Investigation continues.
