Police Log for 5/9 - 5/15

Calls for police assistance seemed to come in bunches, in some shifts Port Allegany Police put in during the week that began Thursday, May 9 and ended Wednesday, May 15. As usual, dogs, drinking and careless love were causes of items on the police log, and this time a report of a roving cow added variety.

Thursday afternoon at 12:10 Chief Dave Distrola helped someone with a vehicle lockout at the Port Allegany Health Center.

At 8 p.m. a fight was averted by Officer Adam Dickerson when he observed two males engaged in a heated argument, one of them holding a ball bat. The combatants and onlookers dispersed from the Maple Street at North Main location.

Friday morning at 10:45 Chief Distrola was called to 78 Pearl Street because of a report of two emaciated dogs seen there. The dogs were relinquished to the state dog warden, who transported them to a kennel in Warren County. The owner was identified as Doug Major Jr. He will be cited for cruelty to animals and failing to provide county dog license tags and proof of vaccination.

At 10:30 p.m. Officer Tony Tanner received a report of a patron at Shooter’s Bar threatening suicide. Tanner was unable to verify the information.

Saturday at 12:27 a.m. Tanner received a complaint of unwanted text messages being received by a Park Lane resident. But before Tanner could investigate that matter he was dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on Pearl Street.

At the crash scene, one minute later, Officer Tanner found that the operator, Jessica Smoker, had crashed her vehicle into a parked truck. Smoker was alleged to be DUI. Investigation continues, with charges pending.

At 9:30 a.m. Officer William Wenzel went to the Park Lane residence in connection with the report of unwanted text messages. The caller was receiving messages from an ex-boyfriend, who had been released from prison recently. She was advised to call the Victims’ Resource Center for assistance in seeking a Protection From Abuse (PFA) order.

Sunday at 1:26 a.m. Officer Tanner was dispatched to Sheetz for a report of a fight in the parking lot. Trevor Neal and William Mogart III will be cited for disorderly conduct.

At 11:19 p.m. Tanner assisted a motorist with a vehicle lockout at a Main Street address.

Monday evening at 8:25 p.m. Officer Tanner received a complaint concerning a cow running at large on East Mill Street near Lillibridge Creek Road. The beast was not there in black-and-white, or any other bovine coloration, when he searched the area.

Tuesday morning at 9:36 a.m. Chief Distrola received a report of a civil issue involving a truck. The caller was advised to contact the magisterial district judge.

At 3:45 p.m. Distrola received a report of an abandoned bicycle at an Arnold Avenue address. The call was referred to the next shift.

At 5:15 p.m. Officer Wenzel was dispatched to the Dollar General for a report of a retail theft. An 11-year-old juvenile was identified as the culprit and will be cited for the theft.

At 10:30 p.m. Wenzel was notified concerning a vehicle repossession at a Pearl Street address.

Wednesday at 1:55 p.m. Officer Kyle Day unlocked a vehicle.

At 10:30 p.m. Officer Dickerson received a report of possible harassment via text message. Investigation is ongoing.
