Jerry Boyd McDivitt, PAHS Class of 1963 & Service Center Owner

Jerry Boyd McDivitt, 68, of Lindenwood Drive, Emporium, formerly of Port Allegany, PA, died Sunday, May 5, 2013 in Shippen Township.

Born May 18, 1944 in Bradford he was the son of Jess and Ruth Heidrich McDivitt. He was the longtime companion of Frances Vermillion who survives.

Mr. McDivitt was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having attained the rank of Sergeant while serving during the Vietnam War.

A resident of Emporium since 2005, Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Port Allegany High School. Following his time in the marines he held several different jobs until opening a garage in Mountain View, Missouri. In 1992 he returned to Port Allegany where he opened Jerry’s Service Center which he owned & operated for 12 years. He eventually relocated to Emporium and for the past 8 years was employed by Gore’s Auto Service in Emporium.

Jerry was an avid bowler, hunter & fisherman and was a foster parent several times.


Surviving in addition to his companion, Fran, are: her two children,
Ricky (Sonya) Vermillion and Crystal Vermillion both of Smethport,PA; her four grandchildren, Jacob, Noah, Melanie and Gordon; three brothers, Robert McDivitt of Augusta, Georgia, Otto McDivitt of Louisiana, and Elmer McDivitt of Eldred; five sisters, Mrs. Onalee Dieterle, Mrs. Connie (Eli) Schneider, and Grace McDivitt all of Eldred, Mrs. Iona (Richard) David of Arcadia, Florida, and Mrs. Cora (Richard) Darrin of Orion, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.


Visitations will be held in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. until Noon at which time Funeral & Committal Services will be held with the Rev. Bruce Burkness, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Emporium, officiating. Burial will be in Sanford Cemetery, Shippen Township.


Military honors will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.


Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Sanford Cemetery Association.
