George
R. Todd, 94, of Meadow Lane, passed away Thursday (July 30, 2015) in
Lakeview Senior Care & Living Center, Smethport, after a brief
illness.
Born June 22, 1921, in Port Allegany, he was a son of Russell
L. and Kathryn Clark Todd. On June 22, 1947, in Port Allegany, he
married Edith V. Anderson, who survives. They were married 68 years.
He was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1939.
Mr. Todd was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Army Air Corp.
George began his career as a letter carrier with the US Postal
Service and retired after many years as the Postmaster, with the Port
Allegany office. Upon retirement, George and Edith enjoyed several
years of travel throughout the United States and lived their winters in
Dunedin, Fl.
Mr. Todd was a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Port
Allegany (50 year member), F.& A.M. Liberty Lodge 505, Port
Allegany, Coudersport Consistory (50 year member), National Association
of Retired Federal Employees, and a past board member and president of
the S.W. Smith Library. He was also a member of the first group of EMTs
for the Port Allegany Ambulance Service. He was a noted local
historian, recalling with amazing clarity many past events, places and
people from his community.
Surviving in addition to his wife Edith, are a daughter,
Catherine A. Radlinski of Monroe, CT; two sons, C. Dana (Suzan) Todd of
Houston, TX, Russell C. (Mary) Todd of Erie, PA; eight grandchildren,
four great-grandchildren, a brother, Lowell C. (Loraine) Todd of
Tonawanda, NY; a sister, Ella M. (Ray) Rosko of Monessen, PA; and a
sister-in-law, Willma Todd of Bristol, VA; and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Robert Radlinski; and a brother, Norrace L. Todd.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Sunday in the Switzer
Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
Monday (Aug. 3, 2015) in Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Port Allegany, with
Rev. Evon Lloyd, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery,
Port Allegany.
A masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, in the funeral home, by Liberty Lodge 505.
Memorials can be made to the Gethsemane Lutheran Church or the S.W. Smith Library.
