Merva E. Amell, longtime PASD cafeteria employee



Merva E. Amell of S. Brooklynside Rd. passed away Sunday (Feb. 1, 2015) in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
    
Born May 1, 1923, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was a daughter of James and Merva Milks Tardy.  On Aug. 8, 1953, in Pittsburgh, she married Francis W. Amell, who died Jun. 27, 1990.
    
Merva was a baker and had worked at Elliott’s Bakery and retired in 1993, after many years on staff of the Port Allegany High School Cafeteria.
    
She was a longtime resident of the area and attended the Gospel Tabernacle, Coudersport.
      
She enjoyed cooking and baking.
      
Surviving is a son, Roland F. (Midge) Amell of Port Allegany, a grandson, Jeremiah J. (Shanna) Amell of Roulette, and two great-grandsons, Drake and Isac Amell.
      
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Francis.
      
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 4, 2015) in the Switzer FuneralHome, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. with Rev. Deborah Mallery, pastor of the Faith Church of Charity, Port Allegany, officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
      
Memorials can be made to the Port Area Ambulance Service or the Faith Church of Charity.
