SMETHPORT—Operations were normal in the McKean County
Emergency Management Agency (EMA) as of Tuesday morning, according to director
Bruce Manning.
There had been a few highway mishaps in the county, such as
vehicles sliding into ditches, but no real spike in such incidents.
Governor Tom Wolf’s emergency proclamation, issued Monday,
had no discernible effect on county operations, but could be of real assistance
to area municipalities in replenishing items necessary for snow removal and
traction treatment materials.
Municipalities would be able to order materials without a
delay for bidding, using emergency purchasing methods, Manning explained. This
is important to municipalities facing stepped-up plowing and sanding schedules,
which make inroads on their supplies of fuel and material.
Manning noted that his contacts at the two electrical power
companies serving the county allow for prompt notifications and action if power
outages occur.
