FIRE HAZARD. It would take fire fighters precious minutes to shovel away
the snow, and then

FIRE HYDRANT. Some vigorous shoveling and chiseling freed this hydrant
from the ice and snow, and restored it to service--at least until the
next heavy snowfall. Borough and fire department officials ask that all
residents and businesses keep nearby fire hydrants cleared for immediate
access in case of need. Two feet is a good "safety margin." Martha Knight Photo
