SMSGT (Ret.) James (Jim) Milton Doan, PAHS Grad

SMSGT (Ret.) James (Jim) Milton Doan, age 74, and late of Illinois, died November 1, 2014 after a long battle with heart disease.

The son of Clarence Doan and Ella Guthrie, Jim grew up in Port Allegany and graduated PAHS in 1959.

Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and served twenty nine years in the Unites States Air Force, where he earned numerous medals and commendations, including the Vietnam Civil Actions Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, Distinguished Service Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters, USAF PME Graduation Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Service Medal and the Military Training Instructor Ribbon.

The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Air Force never left him and thus following his military retirement, he devoted the rest of his life to Freemasonry and ultimately as a Master Mason he was welcomed into the Scottish Rite. Services will be held in Arlington National Cemetery where he will be buried with full military honors.

Jim is survived by two daughters, Wendy Eileen Davis (Illinois) and Deborah Rose Doan-Lopez (NC). He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Kylie Eileen Smith, Lacey Mae Smith, Chase Lauren Mingee, McKenzie Grace Doan and Karsyn Davis; two sisters: Elizabeth (Betty) Larkin (Bedford, Ohio) and Barbara (Barb) Hansen (Erie, PA).

Jim was preceded in death by a Brother Clarence (Buddy) Doan and his parents, Clarence and Ella.
