A toddler wandered across the street to
the Pump House, and was taken safely home again. A few days later he toddled
clear to Shop ’n Save and began shopping.
A woman denied that her ex had
belongings at the formerly shared home. The belongings were in a trash bag in a
shed.
Domestic conflict erupted on the corner
of Pearl and West Mill, and one person wound up in jail.
These and other matters drew responses
from the Port Allegany Police Department in the week that began Monday, October
20.
Last Tuesday at 5 p.m. Officer Tony
Tanner received a call concerning an erratic driver passing through town. He
did not locate the vehicle.
At 6:30 p.m. Tanner served a subpoena
for a neighboring police department.
Last Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. Chief Dave
Distrola was flagged down by someone telling him about a four-year-old boy
found at the Pump House lot. Distrola recognized the child and took him to the
boy’s home on Ransome Street. The child had left that home and crossed the
road.
Thursday at 9
a.m. Distrola was called to Bridgeport
Academy by a student who reported that another student would not give back her
phone. The information gathered indicated that the complaining student had
given another female student her iPhone 4 on October 8, and had signed a
written statement to that effect. Now she wanted her phone back. Distrola
advised the complainant to file a civil complaint to be heard in magistrate
court.
At 6:16 p.m. Officer Tanner received a
complaint concerning a vehicle being operated on Pierce Brook Road with a
juvenile passenger not restrained. Tanner explained that the vehicle was
observed outside the borough and was not within the jurisdiction of the borough
police.
At 9:11 p.m. Tanner received a
complaint that a 12-year-old girl had not returned home after school. The girl
was discovered walking on Route 6 West with a 16-year-old female friend. The
subjects were released to their parents.
At 9:31 p.m. Tanner received a request
to assist in a property recovery at a residence on North Main Street. The
caller later withdrew the request.
Friday at 10:40
p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson arrested Thomas
Bidwell Jr., age 23, of Skinner Creek Road, on suspicion of DUI. Charges await
further investigation.
Saturday at 5
p.m. Tanner received a report of a possible
hit-and-run on Church Street. The caller indicated that an exterior mirror on a
vehicle had been pushed out of place. Tanner did not find damage.
At 11:10 p.m. Tanner responded to a
report of an out-of-control female at the junction of Mill Street and Pearl
Street. The subject was intoxicated. Tanner advised her to calm down and go
home. The subject agreed to do so, but she failed to carry out her promise.
At 11:37 p.m. Tanner returned to the
same location on a report of an out-of-control person. This time he arrested
Jessica D. Barnett, age 28, of 3031 East Valley Road, for simple assault,
domestic violence. Subject allegedly punched her wife, Jaymi Lynn Barnett, age
35, of the same address, in the face, twice. Other charges include
misdemeanor disorderly conduct, harassment, summary disorderly conduct, and
violation of restrictions on alcoholic beverages in that the subject had opened
a can of beer in front of the officer. Jessica Barnett was arraigned and jailed
in McKean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 straight bail.
Sunday at 9:27
a.m. Officer Jason Crants was dispatched to
North Main Street for a report of a property dispute. Upon arrival he found
that a male party wanted to recover his belongings. His ex-girlfriend at that
residence claimed that he did not have any property there. But Crants and the
male party discovered the male party’s belongings in a trash bag in a shed. The
female at the address became irate and belligerent, and Crants escorted the
male from the property, with his belongings. The McKean County Housing
Authority was notified.
At 6:45 Dickerson was dispatched to Shop ’n
Save where an underage shopper had been reported. The shopper turned out to be
the same four-year-old who had visited the Pump House Wednesday afternoon. This
time he had come from his father’s house on Pearl Street. He was pushing and
loading a shopping cart without supervision. Investigation revealed that the
boy had decided to leave his father’s house to do some shopping. McKean County
Children and Youth Services was notified.
