Library Dinner Auction Success

 
 
Through the time and talents of the Auction Committee and the generosity of a community,  over $20,000 was raised at the Library Dinner Auction for the operating expenses of the S. W. Smith Library and Bookmobile. 

The 25th Annual S. W. Smith Library and Bookmobile Auction was held Saturday evening at the Star Hose Banquet with Dan Carter, Auctioneer.  The Auction Committee includes  Lynn Farber, Mary Burr, Ed Vicic, Kaci Daniels, Bonna Tanaka, Emily Lynch, Ashley Carlson,  Nancy Hardes, Audrey Lane, Joyce Stehle Cassie Howard,  Laura Nelson, Karen Sewell, Sandy Kinney and Kim Nelson. 

Those who set sail on the S. W. Smith Library Auction 25th Anniversary Silver Linings Dinner Cruise enjoyed an evening of fun with Silent and Bucket Auctions, Sink or Swim game, Message in a Bottle game along with the Live Auction.  The buffet dinner, catered by Ed Vicic and the Port Freeze, was reported to be as good as those found on traditional cruises. 

The program included the following "did you know" facts: 
23,133 people visited the library and bookmobile in 2013 compared to 19,846 people in 2009; 39,328 items were checked out in 2013; in August 2014, 245 e-books were borrowed; Summer Reading 2014: 5,452 books were read; it costs approximately $10,000/month to operate the library, only $2,400 of that is covered by state subsidy; the S. W. Smith Library is a hot spot - it's frequently used for tutoring and group meetings; and the conference room is available for use by calling 642-9210.

Janna Shaffer, Librarian; Karen Strait, Children's Librarian; Gertrude Whipkey, Bookmobile; Sandra Hovey, Library Aide; Connie Benson, Library Aide; and Ellen Buchenauer, Custodian are members of the Library Staff. 

Special Thanks were given to Dan Carter Auctioneers, Pam Fischer, Cindy Knapp, WHKS, Twin Tiers Linen, Solomon's Words, The Port Freeze, Karizma and Kim Nelson, Mindy Bernardi, Sheila Miller, Teri McDowell, Brenda Bittinger, Linda Foster, Randy Shidner, Jim Sewell, Barb Kio, Jeff Speeth, Port Allegany Online, Jason and Carrie Przybyla, Dave Whipkey, Catherine March, Sara Hardes, Friends of the Library, National Honor Society Students, P. C. Federal Credit Union and the Library Board. 

Thanks were also given to those who provide parking and restrooms for the Bookmobile including in Eldred - Todd's Car Lot; in Rixford - Evangelical Church; in Turtlepoint - Carlson's Store; in Duke Center - Old School Parking Lot; and in Eldred - Otto-Eldred Elementary School.
