TURTLEPOINT-
Nancy A. Strait, 79, of Annin Creek Rd., passed away Saturday (Oct. 25, 2014)
in her home, after a lengthy illness.
Born
January 29, 1935, in Franklinville, NY, she was a daughter of James and
Margaret VanSickles Sheriff. On June 13, 1975, in Port Allegany, she
married Earl G. Strait, Sr., who died Dec. 17, 2008.
Nancy had
worked for Pfeil’s Drug Store, Port Allegany, and most recently as an
accounting clerk for Cole Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2000, after
35 years of service.
She was a
lifetime resident of the area and a member of St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church,
Port Allegany, where she was a member of the church choir. She
enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving
are a son, David J. (Cynthia) Carpenter of Port Allegany; a daughter, Stephanie
L. (Paul) Bidwell of Eldred; two stepsons, Earl G. (Susan) Strait, Jr. of
Farmers Valley, Joseph C. (Ramona) Strait of Blairsville, GA; three
stepdaughters, Elizabeth L. (Keith) Howard of Turtlepoint, Stacy A. (Robert)
Brown of Douglasville, PA, Rose Marie Fuller of Smethport; 25 grandchildren, 22
great-grandchildren; a brother, Gary Sheriff of North Carolina; two sisters,
Marilyn Baker of Rocky Mountain, NC, and Coralana McCleary of Youngsville, PA;
and several nieces and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, husband, Earl, two sons, Randy and Jeff
Carpenter; and a great-granddaughter.
There will
be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service
at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 29, 2014) in St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, Port
Allegany, with Rev. Joann Piatko, pastor, officiating.

can be made to St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
Funeral
arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port
Allegany.
