Mary
L. Silvis, 84, passed away on Monday Oct. 20, 2014 at the Lakeview Senior
Care Center. Smethport following a long illness.
Born
Aug. 24, 1930 in Port Allegany she was a daughter of Vincent O. and Alice K.
Shields Acre. On Jan. 22, 1949 in the First Baptist Church in Olean
she married Edward F. Silvis, who passed away on March 7, 2006.
Mary
was a 1948 graduate of Smethport High School and had been a longtime resident
of Coryville. A devoted homemaker, She was a member of the Coryville
Evangelical United Brethern Church, before it closed, and has been a member of
the Coryville Church of Faith since it’s conception, Mary loved her church and
church family and was known by all as “Grandma Mary”. She was a longtime
Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and the
Faithworkers. Mary had faithfully prayed until she saw the salvation
of all her children. She had been a member of a bowling league in
Smethport for several years. She loved camping with her husband and
family and attending family reunions, she also enjoyed sewing.
Surviving
are two sons, Robert (Cora) Silvis of Bradford and Ronald (Kathy Silvis) of
Coryville and two daughters, Bonnie (Rev. James) Owens of Bradford and Betty (Robert) Johnson of Hamlin, N.Y. Nine Grandchildren and twenty-one
Great Grandchildren. A brother, Vincent “Bud” (Doris)
Acre of Duke Center. In addition to her husband she was preceded in
death by a Grand Daughter, Julie L . Penird in 2000 and a Great Grandson
Vincent E. Silvis in 2012, and a Sister Ann Grinolds.
Friends called at the Coryville Church of Faith on Wednesday from 4:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. The funeral service was held on Thursday (Oct. 23, 2014) at 11:00 A.M. at the church with the Rev. Kent Hill, officiating. Burial was in Moody Hollow Cemetery, Coryville.
