Planning for the Port Allegany Bicentennial got underway Wednesday, September 3,
evening as 11 people gathered in the Samuel Smith Memorial Library to
start considering the scope of the celebration and how to proceed. The
discussion took place at a meeting of the Canoe Place Historical Society
of Port Allegany. Shown from left are Connie Benson, Dotty Anderson and
Deb Taylor. The community's 200th birthday will be marked in 2016.
Tentative plans call for the festivities to take place in June. At the
initial meeting those in attendance expressed hope for many more to join
in, with every organization, business and individual welcome to take
part. Martha Knight Photo
