Herbert G. Wendt, 96, passed away on May 30, 2014
in Avon Park, FL.
He was born September 25,1917 in Lewiston, NY; lived in Niagara Falls NY, and Port Allegany, PA, before retiring to Avon Park, Florida in 1975.

Herb was a machinist by trade and served in the U S Navy during WW II on the
USS Monterrey.
He was employed by Weimers Dairy and delivered milk to Port residents. He, along with his wife Beverly, owned and operated the Port Tastee Freeze on Main Street. Later he became a regional manager for Tastee Freeze International. While employed there, he opened new stores throughout the Northeast for 10 years. Herb had the experience of opening the first Tastee Freeze in Tokyo, Japan.
In Port Allegany, he was a member of the American Legion, a 32nd degree Mason and Past Master (1959) of the Liberty Lodge, F&AM, Coudersport Consistory, and Port Exchange Club. Also, he was a member of the Port Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Claudia Finlay (Robert) of Center Barnstead, NH, and Shelley Booth (Herbert) of Sarasota, FL. One grandson, Ian Booth of Tampa, FL and Beverly Wendt Miller of Sarasota FL.
He was laid to rest with military honors in Sarasota National Cemetery on June 3. Donations may be made to The Good Shepherd Hospice, 1110 Hammock Rd, Sebring, FL. 33870
