Police Report 5/12 - 5/18

A rolling meth lab rolled through town but didn’t get much farther. A township resident deposited or passed a $1,675 check at First National, only to be told the next day that it was counterfeit. A Facebook friend was not kidnapped after all and money sent to Nigeria for ransom went to scammers. Neighborly love seems to be at low ebb at and beside 19 Railroad Avenue.

Those and many other matters kept Port Allegany Police busy in the week that began Monday, May 12.

Last Monday at 9:30 a.m. Chief Dave Distrola was asked to go to 19 Railroad Avenue where a resident complained that the neighbor’s horse had defecated in his yard. Other trespass issues were raised as well. The neighbor was advised to refrain from further such acts.

At 1:45 p.m. Distrola was asked to go to the Power Shop in connection with a property issue concerning a four-wheeler. The complainant was told that the matter could not be remedied on the basis of the information provided, and it may have to be resolved in court.

At 2 p.m. Distrola received a report of a possible scam in which the subject sent money to someone met on Facebook. The complainant described having received a text message stating the sender had been kidnapped and needed money to be sent by Moneygram to Nigeria. The complainant was told it was a scam, and advised to contact the Pennsylvania State Police because the locus of the activity lay outside the borough.

At 6 p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson received a complaint of harassment from a Main Street resident who indicated that a son and daughter-in-law had made threats. Dickerson spoke with the alleged violators and advised them that further acts of that nature would result in charges being filed.

At 6:49 p.m. Dickerson was called to 19 Railroad Avenue for a report of neighbor kids trespassing on the property. Dickerson spoke with the parents and explained that a repeat of such behavior will result in charges.

Last Tuesday at 11 a.m. Chief Distrola received a complaint that a fraudulent or bad check had been passed or deposited at First National Bank. It was found that Trent Neal of June Hollow had deposited a check in the amount of $1,675, and that check had been returned by M&T Bank of Buffalo as counterfeit. Investigation continued.

At 12:30 p.m. Distrola received a complaint from a third party concerning alleged violation of a Protection From Abuse order. Distrola told the caller that PFA violations must be reported by the protected individual. Further inquiries revealed that the PFA was in the process of being dismissed. That was confirmed Friday.

At 8:59 p.m. Officer Tony Tanner stopped to assist a “disabled motorist” at the intersection of North Main Street and Keating Avenue. A passerby assisted in retrieving fuel for the vehicle, and the operator was able to get underway.

Last Wednesday at 12:48 a.m. Tanner received a complaint of noise on Route 155 South and responded at the behest of PSP. Tanner was unable to locate the source of the noise.

At 2:15 p.m. Distrola met with Trent Neal, who indicated that he had received the alleged counterfeit check through Shopper-World-USA. Neal was advised that he was responsible for repayment of the money received from First National Bank, and failure to do so would result in charges.

At 11:17 p.m. Officer Tanner responded to a report of a vehicle that had spun out on Brooklynside Road. Later he cited the operator for operating the vehicle in the borough with an expired registration.

Thursday at 1:55 a.m. Tanner responded to 18 North Main Street for a report of criminal mischief. The complainant reported having seen someone in a blue four-door Cruiser exit and scratch the trunk lid of the vehicle. Tanner was unable to locate or identify the subjects.

Friday at 7:45 p.m. Tanner received a parking complaint concerning a vehicle parked on the wrong side of the street and facing in the wrong direction, on Pearl Street.

At 8:07 p.m. Tanner initiated a traffic stop on Church Street, and cited a subject for expired inspection and lack of insurance. The vehicle registration was seized and the vehicle was towed from the point where it was stopped.

Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Officer Jonathan Day was contacted by Senior Center director Angie Culver and asked to keep an eye on the building because it is believed there have been break-in attempts at the facility.

At 10 p.m. Officer Dickerson was dispatched to Busty’s where an intoxicated male had fallen and had become combative with EMS personnel attempting to transport him. Dickerson assisted with the transport. Later the subject was released to a third party by Charles Cole Memorial Hospital staff.

Sunday at 12:09 p.m. Officer Jason Crants received a complaint of an erratic driver north of the borough near Daily Bread. The caller was advised to contact PSP.

At 5 p.m. Officer Day received a tip that a van housing a rolling meth lab was traveling from Eldred to Roulette. Day notified PSP in Kane and Coudersport, then assisted PSP with a traffic stop on Route 6 near Seneca Inn. The driver was identified as Chad Jackson of Eldred. The incident was verified and further processed by PSP.
