Railroad Avenue neighbors were not
harmonizing on “This land is my land”; two local young men were charged with a
burglary of Port Beverage, Port Allegany Police helped Pennsylvania State
Police repeatedly, and someone learned the hard way that registration stickers
need to be kept current by those who are the subjects of warrants..
Port Allegany Police were kept busy by
those and other matters in the week that began Monday, May 5.
Last Monday at 11:32
a.m. Chief David Distrola responded to a
two-vehicle crash on North Main Street at Vine Street. A Chevy sedan driven by
Brandy Johnson of Harrison Street ran into the back of an Oldsmobile Sedan
driven by Jim Keagle of Lower Portage Road, as Keagle slowed to make a right
turn onto Vine Street. Johnson suffered a minor injury and was transported by
ambulance to Charles Cole Hospital. Keagle’s vehicle was extensively damaged
and was towed from the scene. Johnson’s vehicle was driven from the scene by a
third party. Johnson was cited for following too closely.
At 3:15 p.m. Distrola received a
complaint of pedestrians walking in the roadway on Edison Bates Drive and not
moving to the sidewalk for oncoming traffic.
At 3:45 p.m. Distrola received a
complaint that someone had parked more than two hours at Maple Commons. A
warning was posted on the vehicle, but there is no current ordinance
restricting parking to two hours.
Last Tuesday at 8:30
a.m. Distrola received a report of a
burglary having taken place at Port Beverage. The alleged perpetrators were
identified through investigation as David J. Hurd, 22, of 13 Railroad Avenue
and Maxim A. Morris, 22, of 305 Broad Street. They were arrested and jailed on
$20,000 bail. Both are charged with burglary, criminal trespass and conspiracy
to commit criminal trespass, all second degree felonies, and with theft
by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to receive stolen
property, and criminal mischief, all third degree felonies. It is alleged that
Hurd and Morris broke into the business and stole a money bag containing
approximately $12,882 in checks and cash, and later burned the checks.
At 10 a.m. Distrola fingerprinted a defendant per
an order by Magisterial District Judge William Todd.
Thursday at 2:30
p.m. Distrola received a complaint of
verbal abuse wherein a male said his wife and her friends had yelled
obscenities at him and had made an obscene gesture toward him.
At 3:30 p.m. Distrola received a
complaint wherein someone indicated that a known person had threatened the
complainant. Later the complainant indicated that he did not want charges filed
because the person in question had apologized.
At 5:20 p.m. Officer Tony Tanner received
a second complaint concerning the previous verbal abuse incident. Tanner told
all persons involved to cease such behavior or they would be cited for
disorderly conduct.
At 11:21 p.m. Tanner received a
complaint from a male person who said that an unknown male was chasing him down
Main Street. Tanner searched the area, and found only an elderly person Tanner
did not believe was capable of chasing anyone.
Friday at 6:30
a.m. Chief Distrola received a complaint
alleging that a motor vehicle had been stolen from Port Motel. Further
information revealed that the owner of the vehicle had crashed the truck the
night before, on Route 155 near Newell Creek Road. The call was referred to
PSP. No charge of false report will be filed.
At 3:45 p.m. Distrola served a
Protection From Abuse order on Steven Crabb, at the behest of the McKean County
Sheriff Department. The PFA had been requested by Reva Crabb.
At 4:45 p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson
responded to Railroad Avenue in connection with a dispute over property lines.
Dickerson found that this was related to an ongoing dispute that cannot be
resolved short of one or both parties having a surveyor establish the correct
property boundaries.
At 5:22 p.m. Dickerson stopped a motor
vehicle that was being driven by Ken Lannager. The vehicle was pulled over for
expired registration. Dickerson found that there was a warrant out on Lannager,
who was picked up by McKean County Probation and taken to jail. The vehicle was
towed.
At 8:56 Dickerson was asked to go to Roosevelt
Avenue in Liberty Township, and stood by until PSP arrived to deal with a
domestic conflict.
Saturday at 1:44
a.m. Dickerson arrested Amber F. Harrier,
36, of Roulette for DUI after a crash on South Main Street. It is alleged that
Harrier sideswiped a parked car, then veered into a driveway at 48 South Main
Street, striking three more vehicles. Investigation continues and more charges
are pending.
At 10:15 Officer William Wenzel received a
complaint of criminal mischief at the Railroad Avenue location where James
Hamilton claimed Harrison Fuller had removed a No Trespass sign and post.
At 5:19 p.m. Dickerson assisted PSP by responding
to a burglary alarm on Birch Run. He found three subjects and held them until
PSP arrived. It was not reported, whether the incident was criminal.
At 6:36 p.m. Dickerson received a
complaint of harassment in which Steven Crabb claimed that David Haggard had
pushed him, provoking a fight. Crabb was advised to report to the police
station to provide a written statement, but he failed to follow through. No
charges have been filed.
At 7:15 p.m. Dickerson received a
complaint alleging that James Hamilton of 19 Railroad Avenue had removed a No
Trespass sign from Harrison Fuller’s adjacent property. Dickerson informed
Fuller and Hamilton to contact attorneys to handle their civil dispute.
