Breaking up is hard to do, especially
the personal possessions part. Neilson Ratings personnel probably don’t go door
to door in Port Allegany, but scammers might. An adult receiving drugs from a
minor could get the adult—blackmailed?
Those thoughts were take-aways by the
Port Allegany Police as they handled law enforcement duties, and sometimes
bizarre matters brought to their attention, in the week that began Monday,
April 21.
Last Monday at 9:19
a.m. Chief Dave Distrola was requested to
stand by while property was recovered at 401 Harrison Street. A call to the
live-in party revealed that items had been placed outside near the garage; the
person requesting police attendance was asked to return later for the other
items.
At 1:05 p.m. Distrola was called to the
Dollar General where there was a possibly intoxicated male. Distrola discovered
that the store patron was having a health problem related to diabetes. The
ambulance was requested, and its personnel stabilized the individual, who then
refused further medical care.
At 2 p.m. Distrola was contacted by someone who
said a neighbor on Arnold Avenue was doing some outdoor burning. Distrola left
a copy of the relevant borough ordinance in the door, because no one was home
to accept it.
At 2:25 p.m. Distrola conducted traffic
control at the North Main Street-Route 6 intersection, where the traffic signal
was malfunctioning. The borough office was contacted, and the timer was reset,
ending the problem.
At 5:23 p.m. Officer Tony Tanner
received a call from Charles Cole Memorial Hospital about a male seeking mental
health treatment. The individual was said to be claiming that a 17-year-old
female was sharing drugs with him and was going to blackmail him. The matter is
under investigation.
Last Tuesday at 12:04
a.m. Tanner responded to a report of a drug
overdose on Ann Street. The ambulance was summoned and transported the subject
to CCMH. Apparently the subject had taken too many over-the-counter pills to
alleviate a toothache.
At 11 a.m. Distrola was asked to come to 556 East
Mill Street for a report of a trespass. The caller indicated that his brother’s
ex-girlfriend was at the house without permission and had taken items off from the
porch. Distrola contacted the subject and advised her that any further entry to
the property would result in criminal charges.
At 1:47 p.m. Distrola was requested to
go to 829 North Main Street to supervise recovery of property. The caller was
advised that she would have to make arrangements with the residential property
owner concerning a time when she could recover the personal property, and that
the police could not force the residential property owner to comply.
Last Wednesday at 11:35 a.m. Distrola
was dispatched to Church Street Alley behind the First National Bank of Port
Allegany, where a vehicle was blocking the roadway. The vehicle owner was
contacted and moved the vehicle. It had been left standing in the roadway
because a delivery truck was blocking the way.
At 4:40 p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson was
dispatched to 44 Church Street in connection with damage to a garage door. The
door had been dislodged from its track, and a man door threshold had been
damaged. The caller was unsure when the damage had occurred.
Thursday at 8
a.m. Distrola received a report concerning
a possible attempt to gain entry to a Benton Avenue resident’s home. The report
said a girl, described as an attractive, somewhat heavy brunette female had
stopped at his house the previous day, claiming to represent Neilson Ratings.
The caller had seen something on TV about persons claiming to be Neilson
Ratings representatives and committing home invasions to steal valuables. The
caller was advised to call 911 if the visitor returns.
Friday at 9 a.m. a cell phone was
turned in at the police station. The phone had been found at the intersection
of Route 6 and Route 155.
Sunday at 12:36 a.m. Dickerson was dispatched to Smethport
to assist police with a domestic conflict on Franklin Street.
