Again, time has slipped by
and I find that several months have passed since the last installment of MT.
By the time you read this
column again, the Grand will be headed toward a grand pile of rubble. No more movies. Green space will possibly take its place. As of this writing, the building is currently
being demoed. The lot is, from what we’ve
heard, too small for a new building, based on current boundary rules, etc.
What’s next? Hopefully the dike gets underway in the near
future and the glass plant is able to expand, barring any plans the new ownership
has of packing up and shipping out. Word
on the street over the past few years was that they had planned to expand the
warehouse after the dike was expanded.
We will see.
On a similar note, when the
plant expands it will eliminate the use of the field the current soccer
programs use for their games. Does anyone
have a plot of flat land sitting around?
Meanwhile, the old Sheetz
sits. Previously, it was mentioned that
the property owner had plans of some kind of used car business. I haven’t seen much activity on that lot since
it was lights out and the business moved north.
Speaking of lots with no activity, my wish would be for someone to buy
the old car dealership lot and turn it into something spectacular. A small hotel? Bowling alley? Movie theatre? We would love to see anything on that
lot. Anything but more green space in the
downtown area.
Why stop there? It would be nice if a nice store would make
use of the old H&C/Witter Gas building on Pearl Street. I’m not sure if that building is still on the
market or has been sold. We have so many
ideas…just lack the funds.

surface. What are your thoughts? Those are My Thoughts. E-mail us what’s on your mind: portalleganyonline@gmail.com
