Comes speaks to garden club

Don Comes, center, gave the Port Allegany Garden Club an update on the Donald Comes Natural Resources Learning Center at the club's April meeting. Other club members shown are Dotty Anderson, at left, and Sylvia Davenport. The group made plans for its annual plant sale and summer activities, including providing plants and work at downtown planters and the local library. Comes, a retired career horticulturist who served at Cornell for years, donated 41 acres of farm and forest land, with access to the stream, to be used for learning about and experiencing nature. Some 25 area residents serve on its planning committee. Comes lives on a portion of the former family farm.  Martha Knight Photo
