Ernest A. Shreve, Worked on Kinzua Dam Project



Ernest A. Shreve, 80, of Route 155, passed away Saturday (Mar. 15, 2014) in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
    
Born February 16, 1934, in Coudersport, he was a son of Ernest and Lena Proctor Shreve.  On June 21, 1997, in Olean, he married Gloria J. Lunn, who survives.
    
Mr. Shreve had been employed by Pittsburgh Corning Co. of Port Allegany and later worked on the Kinzua Dam project, before having to retire.
    
Ernest was a lifetime resident of the area and enjoyed being an outdoorsman and gardening. He was a former member of the Eldred Township Fire Police.  He also enjoyed eating out at the Ponderosa with family and friends.
    
Surviving in addition to his wife, Gloria, are four sons, Charles (Yvonne) Shreve of Eldred, Ernest (Ann) Hoak of Portville, NY, Kevin (Nancy) Easton of Hinsdale, NY, Larry Ordway of Wellsville, NY; two stepsons, John (April) Main of Crosby, PA, James (Cheryle) Main of Dubois, PA; four daughters, Sharon Knosker of Bradford, Debra (Charles) Vennard of Portville, Carol Gorney of New York, and Faye Carr of Ohio; a stepdaughter, Angela McCullen of WV;  several grandchildren, and step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
      
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson, Martin Main, step-grandson, Jarrett Main and three brothers, Harry and Charles Bennett and Leroy Shreve.
      
Friends will be received from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday (Mar. 19, 2014) in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Michael Culver, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating.  Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.
    
Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
