An Open House was held Sunday, February 16 at the Veterans Memorial to
celebrate the 90th birthday of Theresa "Betty" McMahon Brown Knapp. The
party was hosted by her six children. Betty was born in Philadelphia
on February 17, 1924 to Helen Larson and Dr. James McMahon. She
graduated from Port Allegany High School in 1942 where she was a member
of the National Honor Society. After graduation she attended nurses
training at St. Margaret's Memorial Hospital in Pittsburgh from
1942-1945. She was employed by the Port Allegany Community Hospital
from 1945-1968 and then to work for Dr. Robert Niles until July of 1976.
On August 31, 1945 she married Dale Brown. The couple had six children
(pictured above, left to right) Dale Brown, Jr., Darlene Abbey, Denny
Brown, Barry Brown, LuAnn Raymer and Jan Brown, many grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. On October 15, 2005, Betty married Albert Knapp.
