Scholarship in memory of longtime Bradford veterinarian to benefit Pitt-Bradford students

BRADFORD, PA – A new scholarship at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in memory of a longtime Bradford veterinarian will benefit students in the health sciences, particularly veterinary medicine.

The family of Dr. Frederick K. Van Deusen established a memorial scholarship to benefit a student in the pre-veterinary, biology or pre-medicine programs.

Van Deusen owned and operated the Bradford Veterinary Clinic from 1985 until his death in October. Prior to that, he owned and operated a veterinary clinic in Otto, N.Y., from 1962 until 1985.

Van Deusen grew up in upstate New York and graduated from Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1961.

“This scholarship is especially fitting for two reasons,” said Dr. Richard Frederick, professor of history at Pitt-Bradford and friend of Van Deusen’s. “Dr. Van Deusen was always interested in the scholarship in the field of veterinary medicine, a commitment which obviously affected his own practice. He also had a connection to Pitt-Bradford in mentoring several students from the university as interns.”

Contributions to the Dr. Frederick K. Van Deusen Memorial Scholarship may be made to the Bradford Educational Foundation at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, 300 Campus Drive, Bradford, PA 16701.
