Conway owns record

LEWISBURG, PA – (Jan. 26, 2014) Two weeks away from the Northeast Conference indoors championships the Red Flash men's track and field team had several great individual performances at the Gulden Invite.

Saint Francis claimed nine top ten performances placing fifth overall at the Gulden Invitational, while two athletes qualified for the IC4A indoor championships held a month prior to the NEC indoor championships.


Nicholas Conway (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany)'s, 8.25, in the 60-meter hurdles qualified the freshman for the IC4A championships. Conway's third place, 8.25, finish was a personal best; he now owns the Saint Francis 60-meter hurdles record, besting the previous record by .02 seconds.

Sophomore Eric Edwards (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) joined Conway's company stamping his ticket to the IC4A championships with a fifth place finish in the weight throw. Edwards throw of 17.12-meters was a personal best, ranking fifth on the SFU all-time list.

In the 60-meter dash Daryian Miles (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) placed third setting a new personal record, 6.99. Miles time marks fourth on the Saint Francis charts.

Trevor Shuler (Macon, Ga./Jones County) ran a, 50.27, placing sixth in the 400-meter dash, while James Lassiter (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles. Lassiter jumped from sixth to fifth in the Saint Francis books with the, 8.39, finish. 

Ryan Kennedy (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) and Chris Fischer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona ) excelled for the Red Flash in the distance events as the pair collected fourth and third place finishes in the 3000-meter run and 5000-meter run. Kennedy marked an 8:54.89, while Fischer ran a 15:45.97.

In the field events Saint Francis claimed its lone event win as Ryan Steinbugl (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) vaulted 4.65-meters. Steinbugl now owns the first and second all-time jumps in the Saint Francis record books.

Freshman Nicholas Miller (Bear, Del. /Salesianum) placed fifth in the high jump, clearing two spots on the SFU all-time list, he now ranks seventh overall. Miller leapt 1.90-meters marking a personal best.

The Saint Francis track team travels next to the Spire Midwest indoor track and field open that is held in Geneva, Ohio Jan. 31 through Feb. 1.
