Dog matters were the topic of some of
the calls to Port Allegany Police in the week that began Monday, January 13.
Someone zonked out in an RV at Sheetz, an Eldred police officer did not answer
his radio, someone left paperwork at the library—it generally was a busy week
for police.
Last Tuesday at 8:20 a.m. Chief Dave
Distrola was requested to go to the Sheetz parking lot to check on the welfare
of a person in a recreational vehicle. It turned out the occupant had fallen
asleep after stopping for some food.
At 10 a.m. Distrola was asked to contact Verizon
for a Catlin Avenue resident who was having problems reaching the service
department. Distrola contacted the service department and was assured they
would send out a technician.
Last Wednesday at 12:01 p.m. Distrola
was notified of a lost wallet. Later the wallet was found at the owner’s home.
At 1:30 p.m. Distrola was contacted by
a Katherine Street resident concerning a bad check received from an Ohio travel
agent. The matter is being investigated.
At 6:10 p.m. Officer Tony Tanner was
dispatched to check on the welfare of an Eldred police officer who was out on a
traffic stop and was not answering his radio. The request was canceled while
Tanner was en route.
At 7:15 p.m. Tanner was dispatched to
J&J Citgo for an alarm. He found that the alarm had been activated
accidentally by the owner.
Thursday at 1
p.m. Chief Distrola was contacted by a
member of the library staff and told that a resident had left important personal
papers at the library. The owner of the papers was contacted and told about the
documents.
At 5 p.m. Tanner was contacted about a dog that
had been found by a North Main Street resident. The caller was advised to
contact the McKean County SPCA. The dog was described as a boxer about one year
old.
At 8:10 p.m. Tanner went to the car
wash on North Main Street for a report of a chimney fire. Tanner confirmed the
report and the Port Allegany Fire Department was dispatched.
At 9 p.m. Tanner was contacted by a North Main
Street resident who had found two dogs on the porch. The dogs had county tags
attached. The owners were contacted and notified of the dogs’ location.
Friday at 10
a.m. Distrola attended a preliminary
hearing in Smethport regarding numerous charges against Gordon Link.
Magisterial District Judge Bill Todd bound all charges over to the Court of
Common Pleas.
At 12:10 p.m. Distrola received several
complaints about dogs running loose and defecating in neighbors’ yards on
Church Street. He made contact with the dogs’ owner and advised that person
concerning the leash law and curbing ordinance.
Sunday at 10:15 a.m. Officer William Wenzel was informed of
a water leak at a Roper Street residence. The caller said the line was broken
at the water meter. The call was referred to the water department.
At 6 p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson was contacted
about a noise complaint about a North Main Street resident who had the TV
volume turned up to the point it was disturbing several neighbors. Dickerson
advised the TV viewer to lower the volume, and this was done.
