BRADFORD, PA –
Students from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford are sponsoring a Gender
Equality Event on Monday, Jan. 13, to bring awareness to gender issues and
promote and inspire gender quality.
The event, which will
be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Mukaiyama University Room, is not recommended
for children under the age of 16 since it will address topics such as domestic
violence and sexual assault.

For the first half
hour, visitors may visit displays to explore topics such as the YWCA; issues
facing those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender; women in the media;
women in the workplace; and Native American history.
At 7:30 p.m., a
speaker from the YWCA will talk about the gender inequalities within domestic
violence. Nicki Kellogg, a criminal justice major from Cuba, N.Y., will give a
brief overview about human trafficking. Dr. Dani Nier-Weber, director of the
Writing Center and assistant professor of composition at Pitt-Bradford, will
speak about women in the workplace; and Tonya Ackley, coordinator of community
engagement and the Harriett B. Wick Chapel at Pitt-Bradford, will talk about
gender stereotypes.
Student organizers
for the event are Kellogg, Sara Bova, a history-political science major from Bradford,
and Emily Harris, a business management major from Sharon Hill.
