David A. Bockoras, Eagle Scout & former Boy Scout Leader



David A. Bockoras, 60, of E. Mill St. passed away unexpectedly Sunday (Jan. 12, 2014) in UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA.
    
Born December 17, 1953, in Port Allegany, he was a son of George S. and Ellie Sellers Bockoras. On June 6, 1980, in Port Allegany, he married Barbara E. Patton, who survives.
    
David was lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, Class of 1971.  He attended Penn State University, Mt. Alto campus, majoring in Forestry.
    
Mr. Bockoras was employed with Verallia Co. (formerly Pierce Glass Co.) of Port Allegany, retiring January 1, 2014, after 38 years of service.
    
He was a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, F. & A.M. Liberty Lodge 505, and Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 460, all of Port Allegany, Coudersport Consistory, A.B.A.T.E. of Pennsylvania, former member and leader of Boy Scouts of America, where he earned his Eagle Scout. He was also a member of the National Speological (Caving) Society and life member of Mid-Atlantic Karst Conservancy.  He also enjoyed stamp and coin collecting. David recently became a motorcycle enthusiast before his retirement.
    
Surviving are his wife Barbara, a son Benjamin A. (Erin) Bockoras of Batavia, NY; two daughters, Bobbi E. (Robert M. Brown) Bockoras of Smethport, and Stephanie M. Bockoras of Port Allegany; five grand-children, Ronald Packard, Lyla Bockoras, Azriel Luk, Andrew and Gabrielle Bockoras; a longtime friend  Daniel B, Denton of Huntington, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
    
He was preceded in death by his parents.
      
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.  
      
A masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening in the funeral home.
    
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
    
Memorials can be made to the A.B.A.T.E. of Pennsylvania or a charity of the donor’s choice.
