There was a minor fire, there were
unwanted horn honks and unauthorized persons and a retail theft and a male
student was alleged to have punched female students. There was a side-swipe and
there was a fender-bender. One poignant incident involved a man with a familiar
name leaving a retirement home and being sought. All in all, Port Allegany Police
were kept busy in the week that began Monday, December 2 and ended Sunday,
December 8.
Last Tuesday at 8 p.m. Officer Adam
Dickerson was requested to be on the lookout for Charles Boller of Greenville,
who had left a retirement home. It was believed he might be headed this way.
But other police located the individual before he reached Port.
At 10:50 p.m. Dickerson went to
Canfield Hollow for a psychological emergency, at the request of Pennsylvania
State Police. The subject was transported by ambulance to Bradford Regional
Medical Center.
Last Wednesday at 8 a.m. Officer Kyle
Day responded to 52 South Main Street for a report of a hit-and-run. An unknown
operator and vehicle had sideswiped the driver’s side of a 2003 Saab sedan,
knocking off a mirror. A scratch was seen on the side of the Saab.
At 5:25 p.m. Officer Colin Strawcutter
received a call about a loose dog at 220 Chestnut Street. The caller indicated
that the dog belonged to a neighbor. It had been retrieved by the owner prior
to the officer’s response.
At 7:50 p.m. Strawcutter was dispatched
to the intersection of Route 6 East and Route 155 South for a vehicle crash. A
red Dodge Durango operated by Patrick Potter was traveling east in the
eastbound lane of Route 6 when a grey Ford truck operated by Jon Leprevost
failed to stop and wait for clearance after a stop. The Dodge Durango was
struck by the Ford truck. Potter was transported by ambulance to Charles Cole
Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Both vehicles were towed from the scene of the
crash.
At 11:15 a.m. Thursday Officer Day
responded to the Dollar General parking lot for a report of a hit-and-run.
Alisa Diaz of Roper Road indicated that a blue station wagon had struck the
front bumper of her 1997 Chrysler Concord, leaving a scuff mark. The plate
number of the suspect vehicle was provided at the scene, and found to belong to
Wayne Barnett of Arnold Avenue, who was operating an ’88 Oldsmobile station
wagon. Barnett was located and advised. No charges were filed. Operators
exchanged information.
At 5 p.m. Officer Strawcutter received
a complaint of retail theft alleged to have occurred at Dollar General. Meghan
Knauer of Port Allegany was charged with retail theft in the taking of two
curtains valued at $25.
At 8:40 p.m. Strawcutter went to 108
Katherine Street for a report of a fire. The fire was determined to have been
caused by an electrical malfunction.
At 9:58 p.m. Strawcutter received a
complaint from a Broad Street resident who said a known person had been driving
by and beeping his horn. Strawcutter spoke with the alleged beeper and advised
him to refrain from further annoyance.
Friday morning Officer Day received a
complaint from a Main Street resident who stated that vehicles were not
stopping when she attempted to cross the street at cross walks. Details of
these incidents were not provided. Day explained that vehicles are not required
to stop for pedestrians waiting at or standing on the curb, but are required to
stop for pedestrians who are in the crosswalk.
At 3:30 p.m. Officer Jason Crants
received a call from an Arnold Avenue resident who felt the police should be
informed that female juveniles had been taunting another female juvenile. The
identities of the subjects are unknown.
At 5 p.m. Crants received a report of
an incident that had occurred at Port Allegany Junior-Senior High School. A
male juvenile had punched two females. Investigation continues; charges may be
pending.
At 5:59 p.m. Crants received a report
of an infant having been left unattended in a motor vehicle in the Shop ‘n Save
parking lot. When Crants got there the vehicle was gone.
At 9:58 p.m. Crants received a call
stating that an unauthorized person was on McKean County Housing Authority
property at Penny Lane. Charges may be placed at the conclusion of further
investigation. The call came from a tenant.
Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Officer Day
received a complaint of harassing phone calls alleged to have been made by a
Pine Street resident. The caller was advised to block that phone number and to
keep a log of annoying calls.
At 11:30 p.m. Officer Crants assisted a
disabled motorist at the intersection of North Main Street and Arnold Avenue.
Sunday morning Officer William Wenzel
received a complaint of harassment from a Main Street resident who indicated
that another female had posted a picture of her on Facebook calling her a
cheater. Wenzel attempted to contact the person who had posted the photo but
did not succeed.
At 6:29 p.m. Officer Dickerson was
dispatched to Penny Lane to check out a 911 hang-up. Dispatch reported that
contact had been made and cancelled the request.
At 9:24 p.m. Dickerson was dispatched
to Smethport to check on the welfare of a Smethport Police Department officer
who was not answering dispatch on the radio while out on a disturbance call.
Then the Smethport officer made contact and was reported to be okay.
At 9:44 p.m. Dickerson received a
report of gun shots on Barrett Avenue. He was unable to locate the source of
the gun shot sounds.
