Forced bussing? Kissing banditry? Port Allegany Police
called it harassment when a juvenile reported the incident, one of the matters
dealt with in the week that began Monday, November 18 and ended Sunday,
November 24.
Last Monday at 2:30 p.m. Chief Dave Distrola assisted a
motorist with a vehicle lock-out at Sheetz.
At 5:50 p.m. Officer Colin Strawcutter received a delayed
report of a vehicle crash that had occurred on Pearl Street. Drivers had
exchanged information and both cars were drivable. According to a description
of the incident, Jacob Wise of Route 155 was traveling south on Pearl Street in
a Mercury sedan when Mike Dubeck of Cyclone was pulling out of the parking lot
at Port Beverage, where Dubeck works. Dubeck’s Dodge sedan struck Wise’s
vehicle in the passenger side rear door, causing minor damage to both vehicles.
At 9:30 p.m. Officer Strawcutter received a report of a loud
boom “that sounded like a loud explosion” in the Harrison Street area.
Strawcutter was unable to determine the source or cause of the noise.
Last Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. Strawcutter received a report of a
dog being left unattended in a motor vehicle on East Maple Street. The vehicle
and dog were gone upon the officer’s arrival.
Last Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. Distrola received a complaint
that a U-Haul truck was blocking the roadway on Harrison Street. Distrola made
contact with the operator, who explained that it was necessary to move heavy
appliances from the residence into the truck. Distrola requested that the
vehicle be moved upon completion of loading the appliances.
At 6:30 p.m. Officer Jason Crants received a complaint from
a remodeling agency based in Ohio, contracted to work on a house at 85 Church
Street, stating that copper tubing, a water heater and a furnace had been
removed from the house. The complainant was informed that the items had been
removed two years ago by the family of the then owners, and that this removal
was not a criminal act because the property was under the control of the then
owners.
Thursday at 12:15 p.m. Chief Distrola received a complaint
from a female juvenile who stated that Wayne Barnett of Arnold Avenue had
approached her, on Wednesday, November 13, and had shaken her hand. But he had
refused to let go, when the girl tried to pull away, and had kissed her on the
face. Barnett was cited for harassment.
Friday at 2:30 p.m. Distrola responded to Port Pharmacy for
a report of a retail theft that was alleged to have occurred the previous day.
The incident had been captured by a video surveillance camera. Mary Silvis of
James City was alleged to have placed a candle and a decorative candle wreath
in her purse and left the store without paying for them. Silvis will be charged
with retail theft.
Saturday at 9:50 p.m. Officer Strawcutter received a report
from a Harrison Street resident who said someone had shot a window on his house
with a pellet gun.
At 3 p.m. Strawcutter assisted a motorist on East Mill
Street whose vehicle had a dead battery. Strawcutter handled traffic control
while another motorist jump-started the disabled vehicle.
At 8:22 p.m. Officer Adam Dickerson arrested James Rhinehart
on South Main Street on outstanding warrants issued by Magisterial Judge Bill
Todd. Rhinehart was arraigned and remanded to McKean County Jail.
Sunday at 2:50 a.m. Dickerson helped with traffic control
during a structure fire at 65 South Main Street.
