Pitt-Bradford students to demonstrate trail mapping project

BRADFORD, PA – Students from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will present a digital map of the Richard E. McDowell Trail at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons.

Students from Dr. William Schumann’s Applied Anthropology class will demonstrate GPS-based software that allows community groups to create and control their own digital trails, which appear as a smart phone application.

This is part of an ongoing project by Pitt-Bradford anthropology and computer information and systems technology students to research, promote and map trails in the region.

A question and answer session will follow the presentation to invite discussion about the next round of trail mapping in McKean County. Students and community groups are encouraged to attend to propose ideas for participation.

Last fall, the students undertook a similar project for the Potato Creek Trail in Smethport.

The trails program is sponsored by the Allegheny Institute for Natural History at Pitt-Bradford and the Office of Academic Affairs. For more information, contact Schumann at wrs18@pitt.edu.
