Newton F. Cutler, Sr., U. S. Army Veteran



Newton F. Cutler Sr., 77, formerly of Port Allegany, passed away Monday (October 14th, 2013) at the Sweden Valley Manor following a brief illness.

Born December 22nd, 1935 in Shinglehouse, he was a son of Edd Ward and Rocelia Lawton Cutler.

Newton had attended Shinglehouse schools and had resided in the Buffalo, NY area for many years before moving to Port Allegany.

Mr. Cutler had served in the U.S. Army. He had been employed in maintenance and factory welding in the Buffalo area for many years.  Also, at the same time he was employed as a Nurse’s Aide at the Mt. View Hospital in Lockport, NY prior to his retirement due to illness.

He was a past member of the Allegany Mountain Engine and Implement Association of Port Allegany.  He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and camping.

Surviving are 1 son, Newton (Patricia) Cutler Jr. of Delevan, NY;  2 daughters, Cherilee (Anthony) Papp of Lockport and Holly (Larry) Edmister of Niagara Falls, NY; 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; 2 brothers, David Cutler of Richburg, NY and Joel Cutler of Shinglehouse; 2 sisters, Bessie (John) Cooper of Victorville, CA and Helen Cutler of Friendship, NY; also survived by a brother in law, Gordon Stone of Bradford ; as well as his companion of 30 years, Theresa Viele of Coudersport.

He was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Juleine Cutler and Denice Hardy; 2 brothers, Donald Cutler and Edd Ward Cutler Jr.; and 3 sisters, Nancy Cutler, Nellie Stone and Edra Umbaugh. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 26th, 2013 at 1 pm at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred, PA with the Rev. Glenn Hamilton officiating.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Port Allegany Ambulance fund.
