Joseph F. Herger, Former Pierce Glass Company VP



Joseph "Joe" Herger passed on October 7th, 2013 at home in Boulder, Colorado at age 81.

He was a man with an energetic, friendly spirit that will be missed. He had many passions in life including dogs, cooking, music, and football. Joe had an adventurous streak and loved sailing and flying.

Joe was born on May 18th in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania where he spent his childhood. Following high school, he attended Valley Forge Military Academy where he received his military commission. He graduated from the University of Miami, Florida with a Bachelor's of Business Administration. Following college, Joe was a lieutenant in the Air Force and proudly served as a navigator during the Korean War.

He spent his early professional career as a salesman and vice president of the family business, the Pierce Glass Company. He will be remembered in Boulder County as the proprietor and cook of several coffee shops including The Village in north Boulder and Joe's Spoon. His restaurants featured home cooking and had a loyal customer base of local working Boulderites.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lillian Herger of Port Allegany PA; his brother, Michael Herger; and his sisters, Joan Herger and Carol Bozzo. Joe is survived by his wife Margerete "Marge" Karagas Herger; daughters Paula Herger of Midland MI, Liz Herger of Winchester CA, Julie Denney of Manistique MI, and Lil Herger of Seattle WA, stepchildren Nick Glen of Greely CO, Kelle Hardin of Milliken CO, Dimitria Karagas of Copenhagen Denmark, and Kevin Karagas of Boulder CO. He had 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He will be dearly missed by all for his kindness and ability to make us laugh. In tribute, a memorial service is scheduled at 6:00pm on Wednesday, October 16th, 2013, at Crist Mountain View Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Pl, Boulder, CO 80301, (303) 442-4411.
