Class of '43 attends Alumni dinner-dance

 

Seven stalwart members of the Class of '43 attended the 2008 alumni dinner-dance. Standing are Lawrence O. "Larry" Griffith Jr., Doris Hurd Mitchell, Basil "Bones" Kio and Margery Smith Demaret. Seated are Joan Becker Carpenter, Opal Baum Moshier and Ruth Chapin.

These three members of the Class of 1943 attended this year's alumni dinner-dance. They are, from left, Opal Baum Moshier, Larry Griffith and Ruth Simar Chapin. Basil Kio had been helping to organize the 70th. anniversary contingent, but he died suddenly on August 19. Margery Smith Demaret, Doris Hurd Mitchell and Joan Becker Carpenter were unable to attend, but were present at the 65-year reunion in 2008. A good number from the class of 1943 marched off to war. They included Navy enlistees Griffith and Kio, who both became submariners and served in the Pacific theater.
