Police Report 8/19-8/26

A youngster refused to go to his doctor appointment. A man had trouble with a neighborhood couple. Kids fought in another neighborhood. Alarms were triggered by accident. A woman punched a man over a child custody issue, a man struck a woman in an argument over keys, dogs were running in the street in one area and barking excessively in another.

Port Allegany Police dealt with these and other matters in the week that began Monday, August 19 and ended early Monday morning, August 26.

Last Monday at 3:10 p.m. Chief Dave Distrola was contacted about dogs running in the roadway on Lillibridge Road near the borough line. A neighbor of the dogs’ owner was tending to the dogs when Distrola got there, and tried to contact the owner.

Last Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. Chief Distrola was requested at a residence on Railroad Avenue where children were fighting. The subjects were less than 10 years old. Distrola advised them to keep their hands to themselves.

Last Wednesday at 12:30 a.m. Officer Adam Dickerson responded to the Port Allegany Health Center for an automatic alarm. The key holder was summonsed. Nothing was found to be out of order.

At 8:10 a.m. Officer William Wenzel responded to an alarm at Fox’s Pizza. It turned out a delivery person had set off the alarm inadvertently.

At 10:15 a.m. Wenzel received a complaint that a child, male, age 11, at 105 Chestnut Street, was refusing to follow his parents’ instructions. The boy was refusing to get into the car to be taken to a medical appointment. Officer Wenzel asked the child to get into the car, and the child complied. The parents said Wenzel should have used physical force; Wenzel replied that the child had not committed a crime that would have called for use of physical force by an officer of the law.

At 12:15 p.m. Wenzel was contacted by Dwayne Howard who said Tom Saltsman was upset with him and told him to leave the residence at 36 Church Street. Howard asked that Wenzel talk to Saltsman and find out why. Wenzel explained that this was not a police matter.

At 12:45 p.m. Wenzel responded to 107 Katherine Street for a report of an assault. When he arrived, he was told that Katelynn Bowen had punched Douglas Williams Jr. in the back and arm over a child custody issue. Bowen was advised to leave the area, and was cited for harassment. The parties were referred to the courts for the child custody matter.

Thursday at noon Chief Distrola was contacted about a barking dog at 27 Ransome Street. The owner was contacted and advised to refrain from leaving the dog outside, because of its constant barking.

At 1:10 p.m. Distrola was contacted about a vehicle having been damaged while in the rear parking lot of the Fireside Inn. Ron Mickle said someone had sideswiped his gold Ford Focus, causing damage. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the police department.

Friday at 2:30 a.m. Distrola was dispatched to the Mid-Town Motel for a report of an argument or a fight in the parking lot. When he got there, the fighters/arguers were gone.

Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Officer Wenzel responded to an alarm at J& J. The alarm activation was accidental.

At 2:20 p.m. Wenzel responded to 211 North Main Street for a report of a domestic dispute. Wenzel indicated that Brian Henderson had struck Elizabeth Knapp in the face. Knapp declined to provide information about the incident and refused medical treatment. Wenzel’s report indicated that there was no visible injury, but Henderson will be cited for harassment because he admitted striking Knapp over a set of keys.

Sunday at 4:10 p.m. Officer Kyle Day was dispatched to 36 Church Street for a report that Dwayne Howard was refusing to leave the premises. Day noted that Howard had gone to the residence and had got into an argument with Rose Mary Saltsman. Howard agreed to leave upon the officer’s arrival, and was advised to leave the Saltsmans alone.

Monday at 3 a.m. Officer Kolin Strawcutter arrested Luis E. Morales of 12 Third Street, Roulette for DUI. Charges are pending receipt of lab results.
