Howard E. Johnson, of Fogel Crossing Rd., passed
away Saturday (June 29, 2013), in the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital,
Coudersport.
Born June 5, 1924, in Port Allegany, he was a son
of Ernest A. and Martha McKay Johnson. On June 22, 1946, in Port
Allegany, he married Marguerite A. Myers, who died Nov. 28, 1999.
Mr. Johnson was a longtime resident of the area
and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1942.
Howard was employed by Pittsburgh Corning Co.,
Port Allegany, where he was a plant manager, retiring July 1, 1983, after 37
years of service. He also managed the Pittsburgh Corning plant in
Sedalia, Missouri for a few years.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the
US Marines.
Howard was a member of the First Presbyterian
Church of Port Allegany, longtime member of the Port Allegany Rotary Club, and
member of the Allegheny Mountain Woodcarvers Association.
He was a wonderful talented man, lover of dogs
and wildlife. He enriched everyone he came in contact with.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis H. (Patti) Johnson
of Winchester, VA, Jeffrey L. (Cathy) Johnson of Sedalia, MO; a daughter,
Rebecca A. (Thomas) Irons of Smethport: 5 grandchildren, 1 great
grandson, and 1 great-granddaughter; a brother, Raymond (Laura) Johnson of
Meadville, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and
wife, Marguerite, two brothers, Merle E. Johnson, Richard C. Johnson; and five
sisters, Helen Sloper, Vivian Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Betty Royal and Gladys
Rose.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday
(July 10, 2013) in the Switzer
Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11
a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Garin Smith, pastor of the First Presbyterian
Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to the McKean County SPCA.
